Hey guys,

Question for the airbrushes of you,
Do you use a spray booth and if so is it a commercial one or homemade?
Looking to sort myself out with one whether it be buying one or making one myself.

Leave me/us your thoughts

Cheers

Danny

You can make a spray booth from a good size cardboard box with some kind of extraction filter/vent on the back so it can be cheap or you can go down the expensive road of buying a custom one...or Find an old oven hob extractor with filter compartment and make a simple box from wood.. get a lazy susan ( no offence to anyone who has a partner/wife of the same name BigGrin )for the turn table so you can get acces from all sides..
plonk the extractor on top and you have a good booth..

Google "scale modeling spray booth plans" and you will have enough to choose from..

Or if your really brave and don't mind losing your undercarriage than try this SPRAY BOOTH FOR REAL MEN

Thanks for your replies guys.

I was thinking the more cost-worthy route was making my own... and your comments have definately helped me decide that.

I was thinking of using some plywood, making the box, for the fans I was thinking of using 2 maybe 3 CPU fans from a computer (cheap and pretty powerful) and then a filter from a air conditioning unit.

The only thing I am a little bit concerned about is the electrics, Im by no means a whizz with these at all.
So I may come back asking what may seem very stupid questions! Blushing

Any more comments welcome,

Warthog - have you built your own?

Thanks all.

I've not got round to making one as I like getting High!! Plus moving all the time (hopefully the last) has put the breaks on one but I will be making one soon ready for the main body parts later in the build...

The fans you will need are maybe 5" case fans and if you have an old PSU from a desktop comp then that will power them.. just a cheapo one from pcworld but with an on/off switch on the back..

As mentioned above just google "spray booth plans" to give you an idea Dan

Cheers Spence.

Just been getting together the right parts on the net. Should be pretty straight forward hopefully!

Here's another question for you.... A plant propagator... How would that fair as a drying 'booth' for sprayed parts?

as you will need a pc fan why not use the case of an old pc? just take out the inners you already have the fan plus switch just need a bit of perpex for the front and bingo!and don't forget to reverse the fan.

You might want also to consider adding a flexible hose vent kit to the extractor unit, similar to that which might be used to vent a tumble dryer, that way harmful paint vapours can be directed out of a window or via an extractor fan.

A cheap start price used one on eBay

Only problem there is that some power supplies blow air into the case..be warned!!

Most modern ones extract the air from the psu to remove heat generated from it otherwise you'll have an over heating pc

Thanks for the advice guys... Karl very good idea, just one issue.... I dont have a space PC! I use Mac's so there all built into one unit.... I have some plywood laying around though, so Ill use that. Top idea though!

My feelings now are plywood box, one extractor fan as you would find in a bathroom, under cabinet strip light and a filter screen with a dryer hose out the window.

Now, time to plan and measure up!

I was thinking of people who may use an old pc & rip the guts out of it,there is a big possibility that the psu will blow into the case,I have 2 sitting in my spares box that do exactly thatCrying ...thats why they're in the spares box...emergency use only!!!!(I can't bear throwing things away that still work...or boxes...got a loft full of them!!LOL )

hi Dontshootme,I was thinking of removing everything including the psu,and reversing it and screwing it back on the outside so it draws instead of blowing, also the cpu's fan can also be utilised to draw.
