Good afternoon shipmate...It has been a while since my last posting but here is a pictorial update on my progress...
BigGrin

And with the masts and yards out of the way for now, I started work on issue 74 and the task of the fitting the parts that were required in that issue. I read the instructions several times as regarding the fitting of the mouldings and the side ladders and measured up the job several times before committing to cutting the wood and putting it in place..I looked up fellow shipmates builds to see if they had made slight modifications to the task in hand, and because no build is the same, I plodded on regardless! I used masking tape to line up the steps on the starboard side, but on the port side, I measured out the steps by guesswork...I think that I got it right? I shall use fine emery board to sand the ladders down when I have added the wriggles and fenders.
Blink

As soon as I have completed the tasks set out in issue 74, I shall start prepping the hull a bit more, tidy up all of the new additions then begin giving her her famous paint livery "Nelson chequer scheme". I am definitely looking forward to that, as I think that what gives the ship her identity?
That's the lot from me this week...Happy modelling shipmates!!

Hi there shipmates...I had reached that part where I had been looking forward to..."Painting the hull"? But then the horrible thoughts began to creep in? Do you have enough paint? What if the colouring varies? What if the you accidentally paint that isn't supposed to be painted? You know that feeling? Nevertheless...I took advantage of all this warm weather, threw open all the windows and began applying the three coats of yellow ochre over the top half of the hull!! The following pictures are the result?
I hope that yours turns out better me hearties!!
Blink Huh

As you can see shipmates, with the yellow ochre in place, those nagging doubts still hang around? Perhaps, if I add the black stripes tomorrow, it might change my view of it? But until then, I will be busying myself tackling the first of the chainwales, hoping that I do not run into the same problem that some of you had...."the wire snapping". That's all for now shipmates...Happy building

It will look different again when the black stripes are added. I can't help but notice the Humbrol tinlet! did you use enamel?
The drawback with enamel is coverage, the wood will draw the paint into itself at different rates depending on how absorbant the particular piece of painted wood is. The end result will be areas of gloss to matt blotches, it will also mean that acrylic paint will be hard to paint over this if you were thinking of using it for the stripes.
However there is no reason why you can't use enamel, it just needs more care and attention to get a good finish, and thinners to clean your brushes rather than water.
Still looking good though, I look forward to your next update, hopefully with stripes?
All the best Steve..

hi jonny great job there,as steve says I prefer acrylic,a note on the black stripes, when you've masked up,paint yellow where the black is going to be,so sealing the masking tape, then when dry then paint the black,so you get NO seepage under the tape, looking really nice.

Hi there shipmates. Been slightly busy with painting my build since my last posting, so here is a brief update?
Blink

I had taken the very sound advice of one of our very valuable members and used masking tape to line the areas to be painted black and painting over the edges with yellow ochre, letting it dry for 24 hours, then going over it with black paint. I left the paint to dry for a further 24 hours then removed the masking tape. I found the the black paint bled through in a couple of places and I did not paint around the ladders or canopy, so, I enlisted my daughter's help and her steady hand to touch up the rough edges and to paint around the ladders and the canopy. She also offered to paint the inner gun ports and inner canopy...So I am not going to let that offer pass am I??
Wink
Well, that's the lot from me for today... Onwards and upwards shipmates!!...Happy building...Laugh ThumpUp
