Parts 9 - Contains a deck section, frame 11 and deck planks.

Glue frame 11 into its corresponding keel slot, ensure that it is fully seated and set square tot he keel.

Mark a line down the centre of the deck, then test-fit and glue the deck into position on the frames.

Cut the deck planks to a length of 70mm then caulk mark the planks as before. Then starting at the centre line, continue laying the deck planks towards the stern.
Step i on page 36 says to stop the deck planking at the point shown. I continued it to complete the section which is shown completed in a later despatch (page 46, step c of parts set 12.)

(The aft deck on this level will not be planked as it will hidden by the upper deck level).

Cut away and smooth any overhanging planks from the openings & mast hole, and also from the deck edge, then nail mark the planking joints.

That's it for this week.

Future parts sets:

Parts 10 - Contains frame 12, stern deck and wood strips x3.

Parts 11 - Contains frame 13, square bases and stern deck halves.

Parts 12 - Contains frame 13, stern deck and planks.

Parts 13 - Contains bulkheads, the poop deck and planks.

Glue the stern reinforcements on the back of frame #13 on each side of the hull, ensure that you align the slots.

Cover the bow deck with planking as before, then sand the excess flush and cut out the forward notch.

Cut a length of hardwood strip to fit at the front of the taffrail deck, and glue in place so that it has a 2mm overhang at the front edge. When the glue has dried, sand the ends of the strip to align with the deck.

Stage 16 - Contains a pin-pusher tool and pin-nails.

This stage contains information on how to use the pin-pusher tool which will be used in stage 17.

Cut lengths of hardwood strip and fit them to the edges the quarter deck as shown, (further hardwood strip is supplied in parts set 17 to complete the edging).

Fair/chamfer the hull frames above the ledges on frames 1 to 4 so that they are in line with the forecastle, also fair the edges of frames 1 to 4 so that they curve smoothly round to the bowsprit deck.
This is done to provide good fitting of the bow side panel provided in parts set 17, though you may want to wait until you have the bow side panel to hand to accurately gauge this.

Further frame fairing will be carried out at the stern at stages 19 & 20 in advance of fitting the stern side panels.

That's it for this week.

Future parts sets/stages:

17 - Contains gun port blanking squares, bow side panel and wood strips.

18 - Contains the transom and a bow side wall panel

19 - Contains the stern side wall panel and two cannon & carriages.

20 - Contains the stern side wall, gun hatches and a cannon and carriage.
