Hi there shipmates, especially the Victory builders that are or will be on issue 75? It is suggested that you use a 5mm piece of scrap wood with a groove cut in it to form the deadeye...Here is what I did and hope that it makes things easier for you who are about to attempt this fiddly little task. I had glued together three short lengths of 5mm x 2mm scrap planking then cut a 3mm x 1mm notch into it then used a needle file to widen the notch slightly. I then shaped the end of a short piece of 5mm dowel down to about 4mm before placing both together into a table vice to make up the deadeye former...They say a picture says a thousand words...here are some pictures...Happy building shipmates...

IF ONLY!! IF ONLY!!
If only you could have had this brilliant idea two weeks ago when I was fiddling around trying to bend my wire around drill bits and using more than a few expletives trying to get this fiddly little job doneBigGrin
Well done there for another clever little work around, I'll bear this one in mind for my next build.
Thanks for sharing that & happy building
David

Looks great Jonny. What is the purpose of the dowel?

Hi Stefan...the Purpose of the dowel is to form the shape of the deadey, wrap the wire round it once, cross the wire then slip the deadeye in and finish the twist with pliers...
