Hello Everyone,
Well I've finally subscribed after 2 years!
I have always wanted to make a wooden model of the Victory and bought the first 2 issues when it was originally released. I reluctantly decided,however,that I did not have the time being heavily committed with my hobby of model soldiers.
On retiring from work and having more time, I bought Corel's Flying Fish as a learner/practice model. I learnt a bit but realised that the instructions told you what to do but not how to do it and relied heavily on the plans. I thought of buying the Caldercraft Victory but soon came to the conclusion that it was beyond my experience/skill level. Having spent a lot of time reading this Forum I decided to go with De Agostini because of the magazine instructions, Mr T's Official Build and the knowledge and expertise of the Forum members.
I have just completed Issue 6 (the building of the launch jig) and already have learnt how to prepare wood for painting, how to perform enhancements to the cannon, anchor and carronade, how to make a build jig and which are the best books to buy etc. I am really enjoying the build and it is good to be 2 years behind and be able to pull on other peoples experience. Thank you.
I have had no problems but maybe there is still an issue with rib 15. Having tried it without glueing it looks to be approx 1.5mm shy of the keel. But we will see.

hi mick,welcome to the forum,the issue with rib 15 was an early error and not all builders had a problem,and those that had a problem it was easily corrected.the best way to check it is to put a piece of planking along the top deck(poop deck)and see if it lines up with rest of the ribs.good luck and enjoy,if you left click on the ship list that I am building you can see the build diaries of those boats. Hi Mick
The key for me is to enjoy while you doing it, it's easy to forget that sometimes.
The other thing I would recommend is spend a few hours going through the diary and model discussions pages. There are lots of places you can stumble on the way and it's a real shame to find out that some one has already been there, done that and found a solution.

Hello all, I had to take an 12 month break due to my second child taking up almost all my spare time (along with keeping my 4 year old entertained too). I'd regularly check all of your build diaries (in envy lol) and marvel at the progress you all have made (including the superb MODS by MWG). Now my girl is a year old and my son going to school in Sept, i can relax (a little) and get stuck in to my build again. Glad to be back at the helm and enjoying every minute of it! P.S I mentioned to the wife about the extension to the Victory (Cross-Section) and she laughed out loud. I'm not sure if it was sarcastic or encouraging... but I'm taking it as the latter and will not mentioned it again
