BigGrin Hi All
heres how i marked out the upper black paint section on the funnel,i didnt use paper as recomended but the thin card you get that wraps individual safety blades i use[i find card is a little stiffer than paper so it wont deform as u scribe the funnel].After cutting to the correct width i used masking tape to affix and ran a brand new blade around the edge'you can just see the marks in the pics

BigGrin Hi All
As im a little stuck with the build on the screw area i decided to do another enhancment i had planed from my reserch into the Yamato. The aircraft deck area was of a cast concreat construction but the two side areas to port and starboard over the boat hanger, where the etch grills are placed were made of a checker plate steel construction like the bow and stern with a small lip surounding the outer edges and also a central panel over the etch that is ommited from the build . I had great difficulty trying to source etch checker plate to the same scale as provided for the Yamato build but finaly found some plastic card checker plate that was as close as i could find.So the following pics show the results of a bit of scratch building of which im relativly happy with the outcome, not painted as yet but il post pic's after iv sprayed it up.As ussual all comments questions are welcome

BigGrin Hi All
replacment pack 14 arived today posted on monday and my deepest gratitude to whoever sorted it.The templates for the screws area are photo copys on paper so the 1st job was to mount them on card with spray mount and cut out.
After doing all the measurements to the hull i proceaded with the inner set but have deviated from the instructions by adding the rivet flanges to the propelor shaft casing and shaft suports, also i have used the brass streamline tube instead of the wood provided for the shaft supports.
This involved a bit of scratch building for the suports and a lot of file n fit but in quite happy with the results so far, tomerow il hopefully fit the outer screws and then its the rudders to fit.As ussual all comments and questions are welcome

Hi Andy!
I am very interested in your proper jobs.Love I guess this work is very difficult because it requires symmetric building in 3 dimension.LOL

BigGrin Hi Yaturo
Many thanks on your continued support on my diary. As you have pointed out working in 3D can be a challenge but using the templates and the angled wooden block make things a little easyer to complete this part of the construction.
Firstly measure and fit and glue the short support arms in position then its a case of cutting the long support arm to length and indidvidualy fileing and fitting to the correct angle.Hope my explanation helps
regards
Andy

BigGrin Hi All
I recieved the funnel crown this month so i decided to start fitting some of the etch i have,as ussual there was a fair amount of burr to remove from the searchlights and range finders and some reshaping to the funnel crown was needed.Firstly i made up the searchlight gangway by ataching the rails then fitting it to the searchlight deck, this left the gangway hanging in thin air at the front so to speak so i used the lower ladder as a suport at the front[ i may add some side suports to this gangway later but i dont want it to look too busy there].I then added the second ladder by bending to shape and using a 2mm drill bit to obtain the top curve, finaly the upper ladder was added and the range finders and searchlights.
I then added the baffles and funnel grills to the crown shaping the grills using the rolling marble method and attached the crown to the body. The final few pics show the assembled funnel and with the 1st light undercoat. As ussual all comments and questions are welcome

BigGrin Hi All
made up the stern range finder tower the usual deburring and filler was used,i also filed off the cast marks on the rangefinder top as these were not present on the Yamato. Then i made up the etch grills suplied and fitted them,i also replaced the brass wire suplied for the gunnery deck with plastic rod.Again i didnt use the wooden gangways suplied here but replaced them with the etch i have, there is also more railings/ladders to be added but they will be fitted just before the final fitting of the tower to the deck.As ussual all comments and questions are welcome.

BigGrin Hi All
some further pic,s of progress so far,the funnel now has a tophat in black and the searchlights have there silver finish.I have to say here the moulding of the steam boiler ventpipes is very well done but there in the wrong place on the suplied castings, they should run in a 4 pipes gap 4 pipes configuration with the 1st bow pipe actualy positioned more to the front of the funnel[virtualy facing forward],its the same with the rear 4 pipes aswell. This means that the central gap is not there where the crysanthemum crest was painted for the Yamatos last voyage. There is a gap on one side but its in the wrong position and no gap on the other side so no crest can be addedCrying [see pics]
The last two pics are of the stern range finder tower with its 1st undercoat in grey, right now im spraying the lower hull red pics to follow shortly. As ussual all comments and questions are welcome

Hi there Andy, the smoke stack looks like a work of art and as for the pipes, can only a trained eye spot them or are they that obvious. I was thinking when looking at the start of the stack posts that I would ( if I had the skill) have shaved them off and redone in brass or something so that they did,nt look moulded to the stack then realised it were all metal constructionBlushing , but otherwise looks good to meCool Laugh

BigGrin Hi Harty
Thanks for the compliment, things worked out better than i expected as the bottom line of black paint is done freehand. As for the pipes i guess im being picky as most people wouldnt notice but someone who knows the Yamato would notice there wrong positioning,i have an idea it was was easyer to produce a mould with the pipes in the place they are rather than the correct placing as this could cause problems with the part releasing from the mould in mass production.I too considered removing the pipes compleatly but as the make up of the metal seems to be titanium basedLOL this would be a mission on its own, also its not just the upper pipes to move but the pipes below the skirt would also have to be repositioned aswell
