However very very few around in 1/8 scale, you might be lucky enough to find the holy grail of F1 kits, the 1/8 Entex/Eidai Grip M23 McLaren, which is a rareity because the company behing it is long gone and the kit long since out of production, its now a serious collectors kit and has outstanding content, they can sell for 1k and more!
There are also lots of aftermarket detail sets for it.

They also did a Lotus 72D, both are very special kits which are sought after world-wide, which on rare occasions pop up on eBay, but don't expect a bargain, a start price of £300 is not uncommon.

If you want outstanding detail, you could always look at going the route of a resin/cast metal Transkit to convert an existing Tamiya 1/12 scale F1 kit into a different version, though the model will still be 1/12 scale, though again some of the transkits such as the McLaren M23 kit from the likes of Ejan can cost £200-300 in their own right plus the cost of the donor kit, but the content, attention to detail and quality is simply stunning!

thanks for the info tomick, i didn't think there was anything out there quite like the mclaren.

i am sure that manufacturers are missing out on something here, even looking at tamiya's collection there is a serious lack of formula 1 cars out there especially of the modern era.

i don't know if this is a licensing thing controlled by mr eccelstone, but if kyosho can produce something of this standard for deagostini they could certainly produce a whole series of cars, which i am sure would appeal worldwide to all modellers and f1 fans.

the great thing about the way kyosho have produced this car is not only is it relatively simple to build, all the paintwork is done already.i write as someone who can destroy a beautifully constructed model by putting a paintbrush/airbrush within 10 feet of the thing.

this is the big problem i have, i've built tamiya 1/12th scale models in the past, but never ever get them the way they shoud look, which now puts me off ever buying another, but if someone out there was to produce a whole range of cars done in a similar manner to the mclaren then i would be happy to pay £300+ for a model, not that i'm that well off, but i'm sure once a year i could buy one.

so come on kyosho/tamiya and others get designing and building more models of this scale and detail.

i can believe it tomick, when my print business was at its height before my troubles, i did print work for the gb hockey and canoe/kayak teams, one of the guys there on the hockey team knew someone within f1 and put my name forward for some print work, the first i knew about it was when a letter arrived letting me know that i could produce kit for them but i had to pay a license fee, i can't say how much due to f1 confidentiality but it had a lot of zero's in it.
on the subject of confidentiality, i have recently discovered it takes longer to be vetted for a factory tour than it took me to be vetted while i was in the airforce. one of my wifes co-workers husband is a mclaren engineer, and is currently arranging a visit for me and my son, the paperwork starts now for a visit after the end of the season.
