Hi all, As this is my first build, I wont count the failed Endeavour one I tried a few years back, We will see how I will go with this one. I am already up to Issue 18 so not much to add before this. Cheers Tigershark

Welcome to the Forum. I agree with MWG Please put your ship in a Dry Dock. It really helps at the later stages and it keeps the hull straight.

Here's the one I built. Of course you can only use it up to when you plank the hull but then it can be converted to use for the masts (thanks to Cerri). There are more sophisticated versions out there but this does the job for me. Dry dockI then put this together for working on the hull and it's time will be over when the coppering is complete. Hi Guys, Big thanks to Mike, John and Peter for the pics with the dry dock. I have now been able to build my own. First rookie mistake was to buy brackets with 20mm screws then buy some mdf board without checking the depth, yep 16mm. lucky I only tried a few screws and didnt damage the dining table  . Second trip bak to the hardware store with the right screws this time and a bit of sandpaper to get rid of the mdf that got punched through and this is the final result. Thanks for the info on the dry decks warping, they have now come good. Cheers Guys

Hi to all my fellow shipwrights Have now finished the fairing of the hull (whew) took me a while, I still need to build up the infamous rib 15 but will do that a bit later on. One item I need help with though is the planking of the stern gallery supports. In Tomick's origal build diary and the magazine it looks they have planked 5 planks altogether on the concave part, I have finished at only adding 4 planks and although there is a slight gap along the outer edge of the stern rib 34 is this ok? or do I need to add another thin plank. I have checked some other build diarys and they have seemed to got away with four planks as well. The only reason I am asking is if you look side on the planks are parallel with the bottom of the gun and I am happy with this. To add or not to add? Tigershark attached the following image(s):

To add or not to add? Hi Tony It's not easy to see from the pictures but you might not have completed the fairing on the last rib enough. The rib should go all the way back to the false keel. In fact you take it down to almost nothing. That should give you enough room for another plan then. Have a look here. John

Thanks John I thought i was ok, but looking back at it I could probably shave another 1mm towards the top of rib 34, will give this a go.

As I said, you need to take it back to the false keel so that the rib is flat rather than bowed. Good luck.

If you don't mind me adding my tuppence worth, try and get as smooth a curve as you possibly can, as when you come to add the curved tapered planks they have quite a sharp bend to cope with, and the smoother the bend the better chance you can get them round without them snapping. I also suggest that you have a good look at how Son of Bulwark did his, he posts some very informative information covering all aspects of this build.
