Just thought I would introduce myself.

I have been building plastic models on and off over the years (now early forties!) mainly WW2 subjects and aircraft, particularly Tamiya offerings. I also have built Tamiya 1:10 scale RC vehicles, and am currently (albeit slowly) restoring a Tamiya Toyota 4x4 truck, which I had as a kid.

My first wooden ship model I am still currently building. It is the Eaglemoss Endeavour. Probably a challenge as a first build, particularly due to the iffy quality of some of the parts, and poor instructions. That said, it has turned out pretty well for a first build (although the masts and rigging come next), and I have improved the model by additional purchases, and scratch building certain parts. I joined the facebook page for the Endeavour build group, which has proved useful, posting pictures and offering advice as and when.

I have enjoyed the build (mostly) and it has given me the confidence to tackle the SoS, to which I have subscribed. The Endeavour has therefore inadvertently turned out to be my trial build! I therefore hope I can do the SoS justice, and produce something that will have been a pleasure to build.

First impressions of the SoS partwork look very promising, compared to the Endeavour. It really is like night and day. The parts/materials and detail look of a far higher quality. the instructions and tips sections look good, and the fact that there is an official build diary running alongside is great.

I look forward to seeing the other build diaries as they progress, and getting to know other forum members.

Welcome to the forum Gus

Good that you've honed some basic skills on your Endeavour and can take your SotS to the next level.

Look forward to seeing your build and don't be afraid to ask Cool
