just a quick word of warning/tip regarding planking of the cross section.

the wood supplied is much harder than that supplied for the victory model, this makes it much more difficult to cut. so when you start planking make sure you measure each plank, so as to leave as little overhang as possible.

i cut 94mm as per the magazine, this has left around 2-3mm overhang. at first i was not too worried as i thought it would be an easy job just to trim a bit off and then sand.

however the wood is so hard that it takes a lot of effort to trim it down. the wood supplied with victory, the akagi, and other a/l models is so much softer it is like cutting butter, this wood is very hard, i would even say its harder than that used on models such as the san fransisco.

so cross section builders be aware, you'll need plenty of sharp blades to build this model.

thats what i used to cut each plank to size, i am worried that if i used a razor saw to trim them i might damage the outer ribs, so i am just trimming a bit at a time.

hopefully if others read this they will cut to size (not to magazine) and will only have to sand a little bit off.

good idea petpole, the magazine instructions are to sand the edges up to the outer ribs, but i can see if you exaggerated the overhangs it could like it is has been 'cut out'.
