Hi Andy!
When will you have a launching ceremony of this Yamato? The hull looks fine and very smooth.LOL
I think the photo etch parts that you used were very powerful items. We can seldom get this parts on net shopping or stores in Japan because they are always sold out.Cool
I wish I could use this one on my Yamato. Crying
Best Regards,
Yutaro

BigGrin Thank you Yaturo
for your kind words the etch as you say makes a great diffrence to the overall look of the Yamato theres still plenty to add but i will add it as the parts are pemamenty fixed as i dont want any of it damaged.
As for the launch cerimony do you think a humble missive to the Emperor asking if he is available to launch the ship be permissable

BigGrin Thanks for the thumb,s up on my humble buildBlushing i thought from the start there would be ways to improve the overall look of the model, mostly by adding details missing by scratch building and the like but i sorta went overboard with the etchDrool couldnt resist it when i found it. I too have my beady eye on the SoS but as there are only 7 more issues left on the Yamato iv decided that the SoS can wait till after this builds finished as i feel that the sov needs total consentration on the build to do it justice

BigGrin Hi All
Here we go with another update, firstly though some background to this update.
I noticed from when i obtained the Yamato book by Skulski and it was confirmed by our japanese friend Yaturo the mast as suplied in the kit [see 1st pic] is totaly wrong, the suplied mast has 2 rear legs and 1 front leg in reality it should be a single rear leg and 2 front legs and on top of this the rear leg is shorter as it sits on a higher part of the superstructure.Whilst many modelers would probably build the mast as suplied i decided that a scratch build was in order as i had etch to add aswell,The mast i have constructed is not an exact copy of the Yamato,s but its as close as i could get and in my eyes looks more in scale than the suplied one.
Firstly i constructed the step on the wood block and added pins to hold the legs in place, then using the suplied parts i took measurements and used brass tube to make up the legs, after bending the masts to there corect angles, i used the suplied radar part to form the searchlight platform but its back a little and not in the masts as per the instructions, finally here i added some brass sheet to tidy it up then it was a simple case on triming and adding the various struts, whilst hopefully keeping it all square.Finaly the etch parts were made up and added.
Its not perfect and still needs some tidying up and a bit of filler here and there but overall im quite happy with the results,as ussual all comments and questions are welcome
regards

Blushing Thank you Saintsman
i had been planing this upgrade for a while,so basicly had all the parts ready[well the basic brass tube and sheet + etch] just needed the measurments to do it.Theres still some tidying up to do bit of filler to blend in the joints at the searchlight level. To be honest we all think of upgrades as modelers and etch is a fine example but to scratch build as i did this was i knew from the start would either be succesfull or a pigs ear. There are still a couple of small additions to add such as the port and starboard symbol lanyards, one looks like a egg timer the other a quaqdrated ball, but i got hold of the Mikasa etch which has a plethora of the mounting etch i need to finish of the masts.I apologise if iv gone on a bit but the Yamayo,s my baby right now and i just want to make a great build into a memorable result, your comments as always are most welcome and i just wish others would comment as i know this isnt one of the more popular builds, for instance i wonder what Jink,s reaction to my build would be but ho hum guess il never know

Coming on well Andy, I might get back to mine shortly after being bogged down with other things.

By the way, the Akagi missing porthole plans problem has been resolved.

Keep up the good work Cool
