Hi all, new to Model Space and a complete novice when it comes to model making though something I always wanted to get into. Recently subscribed to Sovereign of the Seas magazine after seeing all the ads on tele, I couldn't resist. Completed model up to issue 3 so far with no quibbles.

where to begin.
not touched a model(airfix) since i was young and saw the advert for this one and thought why not . my beloved wife has decided to pay for Sots, so i went the whole hog and ordered the victory too.

looking forward to reading all the build diaries and trying not to panic.

Welcome to the forum Chris Cool

Its a steep learning curve if you've not built a wooden ship kit before, and its more akin to crafting compared to a plastic kit, but there is plenty of guidance in the forum to help you along your way.
The most important thing is familiarise yourself with the steps and the task ahead before setting to work, take your time and remember that its not a race.

Good luck!

Hi All BigGrin

I've spent this weekends free time reading through this forum and getting as much information together after seeing the Soverereign of the Seas TV advert.

I remember when the Victory came out but didn't take the plunge as I didn't have any wooden ship modelling experience then and it seemed to be a big investment for me to screw it up Laugh Since then I have attempted a Sergal HMS President to try my skills but found it difficult due to the lousey instructions, the planking being the hardest thing to do. I have perservered and all is ok though!

Anyway, after seeing the SoS ad I have decided to take the plunge but I am interested to see what you guys and gals think of whether I should do the SoS or the Victory as my first part build project?

Your thoughts on the pros and cons of either would be much appreciated, thank you BigGrin

Cheers

Pete

Hi Pete and welcome to the forum mate...Truly it is a dilemma, both Victory and Sovereign are recommended though Sovereign seems to have a lot more detail (decoration) which will entail more time on the build? I would go for the Vic then the Sovereign, but in the end, the choice is yours...Hope this helps?

Thanks Jonny - yes a dilema but a nice one!! Time isn't an issue and the decoration colours make the SoS edge the Victory at the moment! We'll see!

Hi Pete a big warm welcome to the Model Space ForumBigGrin I am doing both but to me the Victory is a must because you can still visit her in portsmouth, and the build therefore is more authenticBigGrin Your choice Regards Mike

Thanks guys - really appreciate your welcomes and feedback :)

I still haven't ordered yet as I still can't make up my mind lol, but think it's going to be SoS!

To be honest it's the planking on hull that worries me the most, but in this bigger scale I hope it will be slightly easier.

Thanks again and see you in the forum!

Cheers
