hi bob,it depends on the wood and the dimension of the wood,if for example your cutting planking to size say the garboard plank,1st.is cut slightly oversize, lay in it's position,so you need to taper the bow end.mark the taper in pencil, now do you use a sharp knife? I use a davy plane set very low and just plane away until I reach the pencil line, now it's up to you if you want to bevel that line or not,as for other woods I generally use a razor saw, then sanding block to finish. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/
