from the title

this is one area i always seem to have a problem with, i can get a decent edge eventually, but when i look at more skillful modellers builds some of the edges are so precise. is there a technique, if so can someone explain it, please.

hi bob,it depends on the wood and the dimension of the wood,if for example your cutting planking to size say the garboard plank,1st.is cut slightly oversize, lay in it's position,so you need to taper the bow end.mark the taper in pencil, now do you use a sharp knife? I use a davy plane set very low and just plane away until I reach the pencil line, now it's up to you if you want to bevel that line or not,as for other woods I generally use a razor saw, then sanding block to finish.
