I am going to lash the boats to their respective davits - but here's the thing.
The book says line up the davits at right angles to the hull - yet the pictures on the front of the magazines show the davits at 45 degree angles. Question is do I rig the davits at 45 degrees, or is the 90 degrees advised in the mag the default position. Unfortunatley Tomicks build does not cover this topic,so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Spigs, the kit does not supply boats for the Davits, these were cutters. I have sourced davit boats for members if you would like info about these please send me a PM. You can see photos in my Victory enhancement thread of these cutters Regards Mike MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi spigs! If you intend to fit boats to the davits then fit them at an angle of 30 degrees I would also advise a change to the rigging from the magazine which says in step 9 page 13 issue 166. Quote:Take it around behind the shrouds so that its two sides can be pulled into a triangle as shown. If you are fitting the davits in the vertical, stowed position, the triangle needs to measure about 35mm from base to apex. For davits in the horizontal position, it needs to measure about 80mm. Follow the step up to step 9 then make a triangle 30mm from base to apex in front of the shrouds not behind. When you tie the 300mm length to the apex of the triangle take it to the side of the shrouds them to the block as in step 10. Pull the thread until the davits are at an angle of 30 degrees the secure the thread as per the magazine. Darron

Spigs and Son Of BulwarkThank you Spigs for asking a question that was going around in my head because I shall be getting a pair of cutters from MWG and was wondering the same thing. Also, thanks S.O.B for your very informative answer and great pics to illustrate how to go about the 'work around': excellent! Thanks again and happy building David

I agree with Daffy an excellent description of how to rig the davits. Thank you for that, Steve.

You can also get the same boats from Cornwall Model Boats at a very good price.

I am posting a photo of a ships boat that I made for my Elizabethan Galleon, its a kit from the Amati fittings list. There are three sizes and are £4.02, at that price you would need to add something else to the order to bring it up to minimum order value, but then again you would probably require two. Problem solved. What do you think? Steve..

Thanks for the input lads! I have two cutters by virtue that -in issue 109 - I had a faulty figure which DAG replaced. The issue included the cutter components. Now I have to figure out how to fix the cutters to the davits, and I am assuming that no instructions will be available in the final two issues. Help please!

You might also want to consider that the Davit cutters were longer than the cutter stored on deck, and therefore should be longer than than the cutter provided in issue 109.
The Davit cutters were 25ft long compared to the 18ft of the deck mounted cutter.

Tomick - why would it not be possible to adjust the distance between the davits to accommodate the cutters supplied by DAG?

There is no room to move the davit post which sits amongst the deadeyes, but there is room to move the post at the opposite end.

Hi Spigs the cutters would have been smaller on the real Victory which would have been fitted on the davits as MR T has advised, therefore the davits for accuracy are the right size for a smller boat that is more accurate for scale. Please take into account Deag did not supply these cutters in the Kit, if you want them they are an aftermarket purchase as Steve has suggested.
