I know there are one or two perfectionists on this site, so I wondered if you have seen this book before. It is called 'The Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor'. It was originally published in 1808 as a tutorial for new officers. I found a reproduction version published by Dover Publications Inc, I think they are represented by Constable and Company in the UK. I have attached just a couple of examples. The book deals with everything from laying ropes, splicing, knots, how to set up all the rigging, rigging sails and finally seamanship in sailing a three master. For modelling, the details are outstanding, and as you may see, all described in the original language of the period. I hope you find this useful John

great find, thanks for posting. i've got biddlecombes the art of rigging, but the pictures in that are so small or poor quality that it's not been much help, although it still has some good info. Come on you Jimmies
