Great build so far , I agree with the others pull out the pins . I second planked my build using Walnut and Lime , I then equally spaced pins along the planks approx every second rib ,Gives of a good result without going over the top on a model of this scale.

Happy building

thank-you all for your inputBigGrin BigGrin .I will sit out in the sunshine and pull them out.it will take a while.
I read in earlier magazines or the forums that you can leave them in to look more authentic when painted or varnished (rivets),but I thought how do you sand the hull with the pins inConfused Confused,`cos metal and wood does not sand the same, must of been putting them back in after sanding or I misread it,anyway they are coming out this weekend.
Thanks again

To say nothing of the size of the rivets on a 1:80 scale.

Great job BTW, should sand up nicely.

Hi all,
I am just about to measure the distance of the last 10 planks needed to finish the hull planking (issue 38).The distance id 52mm on rib 21,
would it be advisable to put another plank on to make it 47mm or just work it out from where I am which will be 11 planks.
any help would be great.Wink

Although it measures up to be more I never found it a problem since there will always be a slight spacing between the planks no matter how tight you make them. It should come down after a couple of planks are laid.

You might find this useful also - Last 10

BTW you may still need some droppers and steelers in there.

Are you painting your model?

I decided upfront that I was going to paint, so I added 2 rows of planks next to the keel before starting the measuring. I believe it made the process faster and easier.

Hi all sorry for not replying, been very busy.
I have not decided about paint or varnish yet, just concentrating on getting the hull finished, but probably will paint as I bought them ages ago.
Enclosed are some pics just not sure how to proceed.
The measurement at the stern is only 20mm and the middle of the keel to plank is 45mm.
I have never put a dropper in yet anywhere but it looks like I will have to now,Any advice would be greatly appreciatedBigGrin BigGrin BigGrin

A quick look through some members build diaries will throw up some options for you!
Darren has produced a graphic in his diary showing how and where to taper the planks to get a snug fit. If painting is going to be your desired finish, then the planking will be covered in paint and will obscure the run of the planks, that will make it easier to blend in some smaller odd shaped filler pieces.
Take your time and have a good read at what is on offer.
All the best Steve..

I agree, wood filler little bit of sanding and paint problem solved.
The thing is, if you going to build an another model and you want the planking
to be visible, don’t you think it’s a good idée to practice on the Victory while
you are busy with the planking. Only a suggestion.

Your build looks very goodThumpUp.

You need some droppers. The instructions should have already covered these already.

Have a look here (scroll down).

Have another read through the instruction to check. It does say you may need to use droppers and/or steelers even on the last 10.
