Hi sJD a big warm welcome to the model space forum I do think that is abit daunting for your first build, try a ship where you can get lots off advice from forum members and their builds Victory SOTS?

Thanks for advice. Did originally look at both Victory and the Sovereign, but thought the rigging and sails would be where it fell apart. Going to look into Victory a bit more for first build. No doubt you will all be fed up of my persistent questions in upcoming months. Regards, Steve.

Welcome to the forum, the endeavour long boat might be a good starting point, and its a lot cheaper than a larger kit

I wouldn't worry too much about rigging, it's not that difficult, but it just takes a lot of time and patience. I did it without any of the brilliant help and tips on this forum, and if I can do it. As to sails, there is a view that models look better without them and I've never fitted them (but that might change with the SOS). The great thing about SOS and Victory are the number of members build diaries plus the Official build of Mr T, that's so many orders of magnitude better than the instructions you get with a kit in a box.

I used to be on here several years ago but had to leave due to personal reasons, I have not been able to work due to ill health for a couple of years now so I have been taking up my time with model building, my latest one is a high spec HMS Victory, (not from DeAgostini, sorry) so far I have spent 4 months on it. I saw the sovereign advertised on TV and just had to have it, I will finish the Victory first though.

Hi everyone. Some I have spoken to before through various posts but have not introduced myself to all the members... Am completely new to this kind of model making, used to build aircraft when I was young but that was many years ago. Looking forward to the challenge of this one and have taken the plunge by publishing a build diary for those who are interested to follow.... Have taken the plunge, and currently waiting on the Endeavour Longboat as first build to get to grips. Only slight worry is planking, but with perciverance and patience should be fine. Only problem now is what to subscribe to next, the Victory or Yamato. Have been looking at several build diaries for both, and whilst the Vic seems to have more beginners like myself, the Yam doesn't seem too daunting, or maybe i'm trying to convince myself.

Hi , my user name is canoe21, I live in Ontario, Canada. My wife gave me the H.M.S. Victory by AL.for Christmas.
I have built the Bluenose 11 by AL and also the Cutty Sark by Billings.

I have been looking over the instructions for the kit and have decided that this build will keep me going for quite some time.

I am thinking of changing the binnacle and also the sky light as I feel that these are up to standard for the H.M.S. Victory. I also am doing the hull in copper.
Still have a few jobs to catch up around our home before I can start the build.

I have got a lot of ideas from this web site and this will help me greatly in my build of the H.M.S. Victory.
