Hamilton has revealed that he hopes to make a decision on his F1 future over the course of the summer break, admitting that he needs to be with a winning team.

Following McLaren's start to the season, many thought that extending his contract would be a formality. However, a lack in form, compounded by strategic and technical errors has led to a slump in form for the team, leading to suggestions that finally Hamilton might look elsewhere, or possibly jump before he is pushed.

I wouldn't be surprised if he signed a 1 year extension to see him through next season when after which vettels contract expires and waits to see if there's any truth in his rumoured move to Ferrari in 2014.

I think if there is a time that Lewis will move on, this is probably that time. Lewis has driven brilliantly this year, the only thing that has let him down is the car this year....oh and the odd coming together with Maldanado. Probably safe to say that if the seat becomes available at Red Bull thats where he will go...I really cannot see him going to Ferrari with Alonso being there. Getting along they may be, but as a team mate again....I dont think so.

Hamiton undecided

Bernie Ecclestone believes Lewis Hamilton is now in two minds over whether to leave McLaren or join Mercedes.

It was understood over the weekend, during the Singapore Grand Prix, that a deal for Hamilton to stay with the team where he has spent the last 14 years is "85-90 per cent" completed.

The 27-year-old certainly appeared more at ease, as was the case with team principal Martin Whitmarsh, despite the heartbreaking result in which Hamilton was denied a near-certain victory by a gearbox issue.

Prior to that, in particular in Italy where Hamilton won from pole, the Briton barely celebrated either of his feats and his mood was noticeably sombre.

Ecclestone, in particular, has noticed a difference in Hamilton as he told ESPN: "I don't think he knows what he will do.

"These last couple of races he has been doing very well. Before that, why he was upset I don't know, but he was definitely going to move no matter what.

"He had made his mind up he was going. Whether he has changed now I don't know."

Given the current economic climate, Hamilton was initially offered a pay cut of a third on his £10million-per-year deal, putting him on a par with team-mate Jenson Button.

That was understood to be McLaren's final offer, however, it has now been suggested the team have increased that by a further £2million.

I think Lewis moving to Mercedes would be a big mistake.Winning races is 50% the driver & 50% the car.Schumacher is still an excellent driver but is struggling at Mercedes because the car just isn't fast enough.Joining Red Bull would be a better move.I just hope he doesn't go for the big salary at Mercedes & ends up racing in the mid field next season.

What puzzles me is why he is paid more than Jenson, they are both champions,Jenson being the newest But they are supposed to be on equal standings so why the differential?

I have never been a fan of Hamilton since he came into F1.

If you think back, he only won that world championship by the skin of his teeth!

Being a true Brit, with a strong Aussie connection, I will be cheering on Button and Webber as I have always done BigGrin

McLaren are due to lose Mercedes engines at some point, although I seem to recall something like a 5 year deal when the Merc works team was set up in 2010.

it's so sad to see that money still rules so highly in f1,the real world does just not exist, the investment and training in a young lad is just not worth doing,I fear that maclaren and others will severely cut back on training and taking on kids for the future.hamilton had the best car this season but allegedly not enough money, don't know about the rest of us,but I believe in loyalty first then the money.it was so obvious that hamilton was moving on after his last win,his body language told everyone "I'm on me bike pal" if ross brawn can dump michael for hamilton I think it shows how
loyalty does not exist in f1.

Shumi's contract must be up at the end of the season. I reckon if he does not opt to retire for a second time, he'll end up at Sauber.
Lulu will quickly need to produce results at Mercedes, where as McLaren were happy to hang on with his efforts, his move could well turn out disastrous.

mclaren had a free engine deal with mercedes, from next year they have to buy the engines from mercedes and lose out on all tech info regarding said engine

So the 2014 engines could be scrapped

http://www.pitpass.com/4...crapped-says-Ecclestone

That will mess up what plans Hamilton would have had about Mercedes having an advantage

Oh dear, what a pity...never mind.Really liked Lewis when he first stormed onto the scene....then he became champion....from then on he became a spoilt little schoolboy. And as for last season.....there was something I was told many years ago...work stays at work home stays at home.In other words problems at either place should never cross borders, that is how accidents & poor performance happen at work....ably demonstrated by Lewis last year,& relationships suffer at home...again ably demonstrated by the aforementioned Lewis.Good luck to him is all I can say.
