Part of my rib frame is slighly warped,do i soak it all and weight it down.Or just soak part of it

Suggest you soak just the part that is warped and allow to dry under a heavy weight to hold it flat.
When completely dry assemble the rib components and glue together and again place under a heavy weight until dry.Keep flat until ready to use.I hope this helps

you want to get yourself a couple of cheap melamine shelves from b and q or somewhere, they are great for making a basic jig for the keel, with a few angle brackets. if you have a couple of shelves then any warped bits can be placed inbetween and straightened out, you can also use them for making sure all the rib pieces that have to be glued remain flat. place a bit of silicon parchment top and bottom this way you won't glue your ribs to the shelves. MWG also makes an excellent alternative suggestion in his build diary - use a couple of large tiles to hold unused parts flat to prevent warping. Looks like I'm going to be in need of soaking and flattening some warped ribs also.  Can anyone say whether it is best to soak them in warm water or cold? Hi, Be careful about soaking, as if too much water is absorbed it will never dry out whilst it is in the press and trapped between 2 plates and I certainly wouldn't use hot water as this would be worse. I only soak when I want to produce a severe bend in something and hot water if I'm in a real hurry. The problem would be that if the soaked part was removed from the press in say 2 or 3 weeks and still had a significant moisture content then you could see some serious warping as the drying out process suddenly accelerated. I would have thought that natural humidity or at best a slight dampening on the concave surface would be more than enough.

Ok, just a slight dampening before pressing with cold water. Will try with ribs 13 and 15 before I cut out any more sections... Any advice on average dry time with the above method? Hi, Mmmm... how long is a piece of string? It depends on the Ambient, how much moisture and how easily the moisture can escape. Try 3-4 days at first, maybe.

Have got the 1st 6 warped pieces between 2 tiles in the airing cupboard so hopefully will only be a few days... Will start checking the rest of the pieces tonight... Sillvestra their is no need to rush the drying out process,it's not until issue 7 when the last piece of keel arrives when the ribs are needed.I think the airing cupboard is a bit extreme and could do more damage warp wise.even if placed between two weights. The final stern frame is not provided until Issue 9 and is not fitted at that point, though the rest of the frames will be present by Issue 7, and the bowsprit framework provided at 10 (though is not fitted at 10), the lower deck peices are fitted at issue 11.

Good point Karl, if you're a subscriber Issue 7 is still a month away and if not at least 2 weeks. So no need to rush. This is not a hobby for rushing, but I guess we've all got beginners fever.

Point taken from both sides. My airing cupboard doesn't get excessively warm - was thinking mainly of the constant temperature instead of the variables of a heating system which is not on constant... I'll carefully monitor my first rib sections and hold off from pushing more through just yet... Many thanks for your quick responses. Your help is most appreciated.
