ISSUE 56 BUILD I then used a grey wash (Humbrol paint mixed with white spirit) and applied this with a brush to the blast bags , this gave a dirty worn affect:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

ISSUE 56 BUILD Once that had dried, I added a thin wash, from orange Tamiya clear ink and water, this gave me a weathered look on the blast bags:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

ISSUE 56 BUILD The only thing left to do was a thin wash of burnt sienna around the edge that fits to the Gun and the other end to the Turrett:- MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi Mike Your guns and turrents look great. Please don't take this the wrong way but I am sure I read somewhere ( I think the Hood assoc. website) that the blast bags were painted the same colour as the guns and hull I.e grey at the time of her sinking. If this the case then hatchette have made a mistake as we are building the 1941 version or so I believe. That said Mike I do like what you have done and this in no way a criticsm of your fabulous build. Gareth Completed models,Hachette Titanic.Deags. Hms Victory. Hachette Hems Hood.Ongoing builds. Deags Akagi,Deags Sovereign of the Seas,Deags Spitfire,On my wish list.Yamato.Royal Navy world war 2 aircraft carrier.

Hi Gaz you are correct, they were painted the hull colour, but then at all other times the blast bags were painted white. I am not building to the exact 1941 year when she was sunk, but earlier in her life, and I have used my interpretation of how I would like her to have looked. I do not take offence at your post I am pleased you made a comment on my Hood build thread, and made a positive contribution Regards Mike MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Very nice Mike. It reminds me more of plastic kits with the weathering detail, compared to say wooden kits like Endeavour etc. I guess that is part of the attraction, with building a model like this? Currently Building:
Eaglemoss HMB Endeavour De Agostini Sovereign of the Seas
