OK. My turn to start a topic to have a moan/question

Out of the 5 issues received so far, I seem to have 4 wooden parts which are flat/straight and all the remainder have varying degrees of warp/twist when checked on a flat and level surface...

As an example photo posted by another builder here, if you look at the 2nd photo on post #1 of Rob T's Sovereign builb (http://forum.model-space.co.uk/default.aspx?g=posts&t=4951), part #8 can be seen to be curving away from the centre keel spacer... My part #8 hard an even greater curve.

As a car mechanic of many years, I know and understand the value of parts that fit right 1st time. As a result, I can't decide if I'm just being too finicky or just unlucky...

Currently, my wet tile press is working wonders on batch #2 of parts for straightening and my dry tile press is keeping batch #1 flat post straightening and gluing.

There isn't any problem with my build being held up slightly with this added work, (my name isn't Roy ) just wondering if this is normal...

Moan over - off to check how batch #2 is doing in the hopes I can glue them tonight and start batch #3 off in the wet tile press

As Karl says, our houses (or sheds) are all different and the different Relative Humidities and Ambient Temperatures will cause the wood to absorb or loose moisture. Plywood is notorious for this as it is two or more different pieces of wood bonded together. The secret is to store them flat until needed, as suggested, once we start to build the Hull everything will be 'tied' together. Modern houses with central heating tend to have very low humidity levels. Of course we don't know where these part were produced and packaged, it may have been somewhere hot and dry or humid etc.
The joy of wooden models is that wood is very forgiving.

I can only echo what has been said already...As I have had distortion in my rib parts too, but as been mentioned, I have glued the rib parts together and placed them on a flat surface with a weight on them...Checking them occasionally, the warpage seems to be disappearing. In my experience, when putting the build together, any minor warpage left will be worked out as the build progresses.

I remember those particular weights well from my childhood and with my father visiting the local coal merchant where the coal was weighed on what to me seemed like gigantic iron scales, wheeling the coal home through the streets on an old pram...Oh, those were the days... I reckon that they must be collector pieces these days???
