Please please please can someone help me on this. I have just started to build my Mclaren, and i am having the biggest problem in the world being able to get the screws to fit, mainly down to the screwdriver issued. I cannot, and repeat CANNOT get the screws to go in, before i find myself rounding the heads off. I have tried various screwdrivers that i have, but to no avail, i am struggling like mad, and apart from having very sore hands and running out of screws, i am finding this very dis heartening indeed. Does anybody have any hints/tips that i can try to overcome this problem ?? Oh, and yes i am using the correct screws as per the instructions/diagrams. Please help someone, as i am suffering !!! Many many thanx in antisipation. Steveb. Grimsby.

The main great tip is to use a bit of vaseline on the screw. Plus you can buy better screw drivers to fit which are details in one of the really early posts on the forum! I'm sure its "00" philips type!

Hi Steve, I know exactly what you mean. When i first started the model i thought this is going to be a nightmare. The screwdriver they give you is totally hopeless & will chew up the screwheads. You do get a small plastic attachment in one of the early issues that helps alittle but really isn't very good.I would suggest that you definitely buy a quality mini screwdriver set, it will make your whole build so much easier.I'm on issue 76 now & i found pretty early on that before you screw any of the parts together permanently that you should tighten a screw in the hole first, most of the way in, then remove the screw & then join the parts. The screw should go in alot easier.Keep at it, it gets easier once you get going.Stuart.

I'm sure its "00" philips type! Be MEGA careful using Vaseline! It's a petroleum jelly and can easily remove model paint, apart from rotting surrounding plastic after a year or so. I know this to my cost building a 1/12 Tamiya Lotus 49 many years ago and using vaseline on the wheel shafts. Around 18 months later a wheel fell off, and inspection showed all 4 shafts had turned to a black vaseline/plastic mush. A drop of washing up liquid in a saucer, dip the shaft of the screw in it, dab it on tissue to remove excess, and fit the screw. Simple. Any overspill of washing up liquid wipes off - no probs. Roy.
