Hi Andy! How great your jobs are! Especially I pay attention to your gray painting technique. Such flat gray painted surface seems realistic. Of course your close work on the mast is also amazing.  Hi Yaturo thank you for your enthusiasm and continued support. As for the weathering on the paint some of it is brush applied and some by airbrush,im using Tamaia's Kure arsenal grey thinned down by 50% which can mean several coats by brush but still gives a good coverage.What i have noticed with the grey is over time it lightens in the more exposed areas thus giving a more realistic look,i will have to start thinking about a matt clear coat after more weathering as added as i find Tamaia paint can be a little fragile if handled too much without a protective coating. The mast was constructed after carefull study of J.Skulski's rendition in his book, there are still some small additions to add and the parts were obtained several months ago, i was just waiting for the kit parts to arrive to get the right measurements as i had already worked out how to build it in my head.I know its not an exact rendition of the Yamato's mast but its closer to it than the supplied one and not bad for 6 hours work  regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi All I decided to add the main walkway to the forward range finder provided in the etch set i have,there is still some railings to add here but they will be added at a later date.The 1st picture shows the range finder with the kit parts and the other three with the etch.I was suprised at how much the look of the range finder was improved  just by the addition of this piece of etch and am very happy with the results.As ussual all comments and questions are welcome regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Andy! Your jobs look great! I remember that etch parts of this corporation were so soft and weak that they were easy to be broken. I guess you had troublesome works. By the way are there hand rail parts in your kit? (red arrow in my attached pic) I'm looking foreword to see your completed head of bridge. Hi Yaturo Thanks for the continued support on my build,so far all the Gold Medal etch i have used has been of the highest quality and i have had no trouble with it breaking apart.As for handrails there are several diffrent sorts to compleat the kit but these will be added when the construction of the bridge island is compleated,i also have to fabricate the gun stop rails too on here regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi, and a great build diary Andy. It gives me some idea on what I have let myself in for, as I have just started my Yamato this week. I am however planning going on a slightly different route in making mine an RC model which should be interesting. Model boats built so far:-
Billings Cutty Sark
Scratch built twin IC RC Vosper MTB.
Scratch built rc electric hybrid.
Scratch built rc IC hydrofoil (ran happily on snow as well as water!)
Plus numerous numerous RC planes.
Under construction
Sovereign of the Seas!
1200:1 HMS Victory (by Mantua)
The Battleship Yamato (seriously considering building as an RC model)

Hi Denissimo Thanks for looking in and thank you for the kind words,Just a word of warning here if your thinking of going down the r/c route,Jinks did that [take a look at his build diary on here if you havent seen it] and he had problems with the model being top heavy even though he had leaded the hull to the correct sit in the water.The problem is that the bridge island is all metal and results in a quite hefty weight when its fully constructed and with a beam of 6 inches it would seem its a mill pond weather ship,but i admire you for going down this path and good luck with the build,please dont hesitate to ask if you have any problems with your build regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I intend to counter-act that by installing, small and fairly flat, (but heavy) sealed lead acid battery packs along almost the full length of the model. Apart from anything else, it will give an extended run time without the need for constant recharging. After looking at your build diary, it appears that some of the bridge island is made from solid peices of steel? (I may be wrong!) If so, I could shed quite a lot of weight by hollowing out, all of the solid metal castings. Model boats built so far:-

Hi Denissimo All the major metal parts are cast/injection moulded hollow but some of the very small pieces are of solid construction,individualy the pieces seem light but its when there all added together that the weight starts to show,right now mine wheighs a good bag of sugar at a guess and theres still more bits to add,sorry i dont ave any scales to wheigh it  available. Your idea about the batterys is a good idea but your also up againt the design of the hull,when the IJN designed the Yamato she was designed to fit into the available drydocks in Japan,i think 2 drydocks were lengthened and 1 was built specialy for the shinano or Mushasi.It was easyer to lengthen a drydock than make it deeper so the hull design is much shallower in draught than most other ships of comparable design of the period.One way around the problem would be to scratch build the major island components in balsa/lightply and add the smaller metal componnts to this but thats a major rebuild and could be quite daunting to some modelers.I noticed you have scratch built before so this could be an option for you,hope this helps regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Strength isnt going to be an issue on a model ships superstructure I reckon that with some careful fettling, I might be able to shave as much as 25% off to the total weight of the island (fingers crossed) I am toying with the idea of replacing the parts in the pic with tin to cut down on deck weight. (Borrowed your pic Tom.lol)  I have measured the compartments between the frames and beams, plus the height. There is just enough room to squeeze 4, sealed lead acid batteries into 4 of the compartments. (If the battery suppliers dimentions are correct!) All the compartments that are not used for batteries, RC equipment etc, are going to be injected with expanding foam. Yes, I love experimenting  Model boats built so far:-
