this is aimes at the newbees mainly. when your laying the floors on the decking and you want to show floorboard nail, why not use the real thing? treenail,wooden dowels fix 'em down on the rel thing so heres how!
I drilled hole .75mm in the handle of a stanley knife,got some cocktail sticks,and drill the hole in the stanley knife hole? yes insert the cocktail stick into the drill,don't overtighten, and drill about 5mm. you will find that the metel hole will cut the cocktail stick, then do the other end, two dowels per stick.glue into hole 1mm.in floorboard when dry cut.take my word it looks like the real thing.

I will give more tips later, if wanted.

the blocks that came with the carronade are a little out of scale, what will help the situation is to sand of the corners making them more round i use a small needle file for this,then i thread them onto a piece of wire and stain them black because paint will enlarge as will varnish,and block holes.i use ink.

I used shellax by britwax, you use methelated spirits to clean up with.

I would use sanding sealer for that job but I would use Clear Dope (For shrinking and sealing nylon and tissue paper coverings on balsa wood flying air-craft models.) follow the instructions on the tin you won't see the joins. Small creases are removed as the Dope dries.

the deadeyes,that round bit with three holes, and also block,square things with one hole, I dye these with black ink,thread on a piece of wire and dunk them them in the bottle,reason I do this? so you don't block the holes.

this pic also shows adding a little extra to the kit.try putting brass pins in the re-inforce it,they take a lotta strain from the rigging,and general knocks.

Otherwise known as pinning. It's a good tip as it gives a much more secure method of fixing than simply using glue.

I tended to be lazy about this - until I became fed-up of the arms or hands on my mini's falling off under the slightest provocation.
