Hi Peter thanks for your comments much appreciated BigGrin .

Still having mega problems with part 2 the warped front keel extension whatever I do it just reverts back to been very warped! Spent enough time trying to straighten it now so I decided to phone customer services explained my dilemma they are now sending me a replacement let’s just hope it arrives straight! Let you know the outcome. All the smaller parts are now reasonably straight.

I like your signature with a link to your build diary Cool hope you don’t mind me copying the idea BigGrin

Cheers

Chris

Hi all,

Been busy around the house and garden doing jobs before the weather and dark nights close in so not done much work on the Victory this week.

Glued some of the ribs together between glass weighted down with a plastic tub full of water.

Then completed the bow.

All straight forward with no problems to mention.

That's it till next time thanks for reading...

Any comments or questions most welcome...

Cheers

Chris

Cheers Mike...I'm considering the balsa option to help with the planking of the bow and stern. Checked out your advice and images of balsaed (is that a word?) hulls on previous ships you have built and it seems to be the way forward for a good finish. Great advice on technique etc on your SOTS build diary so I think I may take the plunge and source some balsa BigGrin

Cheers

Hi everyone, two new items arrived today in the post BigGrin

HMS Victory Copper Tile Pack

My first thought was what a lot of money for such a small packet. Then I did the maths and it works out at only 0.013p a tile and thiers approx 4500 of them so it represents good value for money I think.

10x Cobalt 1mm Drill Bits

Managed to snap two 1mm drill bits drilling the brass strip making the carronade. Spotted these 1mm Cobalt drill bits on my internet travels. Suppose to be the best quality for drilling hardened steel so I will see how I get on with these.

At the moment I'm building the launch and sorting out the anchor ring and rope info and pictures to follow this week hopefully.

Cheers

Chris

Hello everyone, been working on the anchor ring and rope as well as the launch this week so as promised this is what I've been up to so far BigGrin

Anchor Ring
After studying reference images of Victory's anchor I bent a 1mm brass rod around the shank of a 10mm drill bit enough times to make four rings for the four anchors.

Had problems with the ring keep coming off the anchor especially while trying to wind rigging thread around the ring to make the puddening so to solve this problem I soldered the ring together.

Next I wind a length of 0.75mm black rigging thread twice (two layers) around the ring to form the puddening.

Finished the puddening off by adding three bands around the ring using 0.5mm natural rigging thread (natural to simulate hemp rope). Made a simple paper template to position the bands.

Anchor Rope
I was very pleased with how the ring and puddening came out so it was on to the anchor rope. Started off by making a loop around a paint brush using 2.5mm natural thread held in place with masking tape.

Once formed the loop was removed and the whipping added again using 0.5mmm natural thread.

Then it was just a simple case of threading the running end of the thread through the anchor ring and back through the loop formed earlier. Comparing the finished product with the reference pictures everything seems to be in scale.

At this point I must mention and thank both karl1113 and Son of Bulwark both did anchor tutorials and inspired me to create my anchor. Thanks Guys BigGrin

That's it till next time thanks for reading...

Any comments or questions most welcome...

Cheers

Chris

Some fantastic building on show here.
I can see this being a build of distinction, the rope work on the anchor is spectacular!! if the rest of your build follows in a similar manner this will be a diary not to be missed 10/10 most impressive!
All the best, Steve..Drool

Wow Steve was not expecting a comment like that thank you very much appreciated mate. Looked in on your build diary not doing too bad yourself if I may say so. I'm just taking my time it did take three attempts to make the anchor ring so it's not all plain sailing. Although the rope work worked out first time. I have built models before but never a wooden ship all new experience for me but I am enjoying the build, hope I can keep it up especially with the wood work. Thanks once more Steve for your kind comments BigGrin

Cheers

Chris
