Hello everyone My name is Mabel, I seem to be the only female on here so I hope you chaps don't mind me joining in I have just finished building "Nina" which completes the Christopher Columbus trio and I have just started the rigging stage of the Mayflower and am currently collecting the Sovereign of the seas but haven't yet made a start. In the past I have built: Santa Maria Pinta Golden Hind Beagle Africa Queen Knowing that it is my favourte film of all time, a friend of mine bought me the Africa Queen thinking that it was an ornament it remained in it's box for ages then one day I decided to have ago at it and I've been hooked on this hobby ever since All the best, May xxx

Hi May and welcome Some interesting builds you have and one that stands out to me is the "Beagle" When I was in Secondary school while living in Cornwall My father worked as a mechanic on the engines of the "Bark Marques" which was a three masted Tall ship.. I had the experience of a lifetime by travelling on this ship on the first part of the 1984 Cutty Sark tall ships race for which she came first.. My Father and I got off the ship in Hamilton Puerto Rico as I had to return for school and my dad had another job to do for another company... As you can see from the link she did not make the second voyage bound for Halifax To say fate might have handed a lifeline or helping hand is something I look back on at time to time as 19 of the 28 crew where lost including most of the crew i got to know very well.. The other reason is that she was also used to recreate the "Beagle" in the BBC tv programme "the voyages of Charles Darwin" I spent many weekends and trips with my dad as she was being worked on to create the additional Decks and Captains quarters for the series before filming. My father has many photos of the Marques and both have fond memories.. MarquesSpencer

Hello, Thank you chaps for your kind welcome, I'm sorry I haven't replied earlier but with three teenage daughers living at home getting on the computer isn't all that easy Spencer, I served for 20 years in QARNNS so I know only to well how strange a thing fate can be and how deeply felt a loss of life at sea can affect those involved. My eldest son currently has the Beagle so the next time I pay him a visit I'll take some snaps and post them on here. It was a good build and a well detailed kit (Mamoli) with instructions that even I could follow Kev, Thank you, thats one of the things that I think seperate this forum form some of the others out there is the willingness of the members to help each other. I get a good sense of team work on here yes there are one or two "heros" but generally it seems a great team to be apart of. Andy, The Africa Queen was my first build so I struggled with it all the way and to be honest it didn't particularly turn out all the well I’m afraid to say. But now I have few builds under my belt and a bit more knowledge to fall back on I will propably pick up another kit and have another go at it. To answer your question, it is a bit lacking in interior detail but there's plenty of scope to add your own added extras if you wish to do so. The supplied parts and instructions are of a good quaility, the version I did was from Billings boats. When I get the chance I'll post some pictures of mine which won't be a good advert for the kit but you'll get the general idea ********************************************************************* Thank you all again for the kind welcome, May xxx
