The transition between round to square seems seemsless, must have been very difficult to do.

I deicided to do the work to the foretop's,

I sanded all the burn marks of the framing, trimmed to fit the base and glued in place.

Once the glue was dry, I bored the holes round the edge of the foretop.

I then marked out the positions of the bass wood battens on the floor.

There are some eyelets to hang from the underside of the platform, I have bored these and am going to fix the floor battens over these hole, so as I can fix the eyelets to them from the underside. Then you wont be able to see the holes from the top.

I then bored the holes for the handrail and fitted the brass legs and fitted the walnut and sepele handrail.

I am going to do the same to the other 2 now.

Over and out Mo

Well there has been a lot of time spent on completing the foretops or crows nest's or what ever they are called. A lot of precision cutting and fitting, Again I am more than happy with the results. All I have to do now is fit the blocks and the netting to the handrail. Will catch all that later in the build.

Thanks again for all the encouragement, I honestly would have struggled to get this far without all the help this forum has given me. I now feel I am getting to some very difficult areas, the bit I am most nervous about is all that detail at the bow of the ship, curved timbers, gratings etc,

good news, just out of hospital today, after having a operation on my leg, to take out a metal plate, I broke it 18 months ago, Should get a bit more done over the next week or so, looking forward to going to the show in Blackpool and the weekend, is it worth the trip.

Mo,

Hi there Mo, if you are having any doubts about all the gubbins on the front , why dont you look at my Royal Caroline buid and check out the front on that, all done in plastic and when its painted you dont know the difference and its a lot easier to work with. I am going to attempt the front on my Surprise using the plastic in the next few days.BigGrin

I have started to paint the hull, This will test my painting skills.

I had previously painted the gun port liners ochre red, and I had cut round them in yellow ochre,

I then roughly painted inbetween the gun ports with the yellow.

I then cut and bent the timbers for above and below the gunports to the shape of the bow, I then gave them 2 coats of yellow, waited till they were dry and super glued them to the hull,

Its then a case of painting the black to the lines of yellow, I still have to put my masking tape to the water line to take the black to that point.

I think my carpentarty skills are ok, just have to polish up on the painterwork.

Hi in there Mo, I would,nt worry too much about the paint at this stage cos you are forever going to be touching it up. I t looks good as it is now and as you work on it it can only get better . I have just beem touching mine up and no doubt will be doing it again later. Just remember a little tip ,try and support the hand you are painting with and stop breathingLOL . Looks good MoBigGrin

I am now establishing my water line mark, the line to where I will take the black paint down to, I first put masking tape round the hull, at variour points.

I then used a block and then marked the heights on to the masking tape, Ensuring first the ship was level length ways and width ways.

I then lightly scored the tape, at the lines I had just marked, with my craft knife, and removed the tape to the lower side.

This then gave me the position of my masking tape, which I stuck on.

I then removed the tape above the masking tape ready for painting.

I also put a extra bit of masking tape over the small piece I had stuck on.

And I painted away, 3 coats to all the black areas.

10 10 for now Mo.

I had deceided at the end of my last post that, that was it for the day, No more holding my breath to paint black into Yellow, I had done enough. I then hung up my paint brush for the day.

After which I could not hold the brush, So I took of the masking tape, and to my great delight it had worked.

Night Night now, of for some more Bud.

Today I have cut painted and fitted the 2mm x 2mm timber battens through the center of the gun ports.

I cut and gave two coats of yellow ochre to the timbers,

I marked the hull to there positions, But I am not going to do the first one up to the Bowsprit, untill I have fitted the bowsprit itself, I can fit it to the dowel, rather than cut away at the timber to fit the dowel.

I used a timber spacer to achieve the right position for the timbers.

I am more than happy with the line of all the battens. a good parrallel line to the bottom and top timbers.

Moriarty, I have had a look ahead at things, I see there are columns to be fitted between the window mullions of the Captains quarters, mine do not fit, the gap between the windows are to small to take the columns, how did you get on with yours.
