repack the slot equally with card, when you are suer it's ok glue the card in the slot ensuring the mast holder is straight. Hello Hector,
I know that most people sand the burnt edges to clean them up but I find that a quick rub down with a dry cotton bud will remove the ash to secure a good fixing point for the glue without the need for sanding.
I came across a good tip awhile ago on the model ship world forum, which is to glue a piece of card on the area that has been over sanded using super glue (I used some from a cereal box) once the glue has dried soak it again with super glue. leave to dry and then sand it to suit.
I used this tip when I over did the fairing on the "Nina" build I've just finished and it worked a treat.
Hope this is of some use.
