Hi, The best way to hold the small blocks is to hold them on the shaft of a small drill (0.7mm) through the hole in the block, which can be held in a pin chuck and then in a small vice. These jobs are not easy but the more you do the better you'll get.

hi Garyj13 I was sitting waiting for issue 4 to arrive(yawn),I thought Id address the fiddly cannon block, as its shown in the diary so I jumped the gun here . Cut 50mm of wire and touch ends, making a loop around a 1mm nail twist the wire 2 full turns to secure the nail, now open up the wire ends and insert the wood that was left over from the anchor stock, twist the wire 2 full turns remove the wood. Take the cannon block and insert a sewing needle in the hole, offer it up into the loop just formed in wire, the loop is a bit bigger so hold the wire in the grooves with tweezers, twist wire to hold block tight. Hold the twisted wire with tweezers as there are to many turns and come back till only 2 turns remain. Reposition nail at loose end (there is enough block and wire to hold with fingers)and give 2 full turns of wire snip off unwanted wire remove nail and needle. TADA.Just199 to go TOOLS: 1mm nail sewing needle tweezers i used 2 side cutters ruler 35mm wood from anchor PS does anyone know what colour the blocks are

the extra hands were a freebee in the vic build, and what a godsend they were,it can be used for so many aspects of building, for whipping deadeyes, waterline marker, painting all the small bits,i.e.cannons trucks, anchors, crewmen, holding blocks, tackle, pulleys, and a host of other jobs,I use mine almost daily.a must have tool. I tackled the cannon blocks last night, very fiddly and took me best part of an hour but pleased with the result, I'm sure we'll all be pro's at them towards the end of the build with all the practise we'll get. Building - Sovereign Of The Seas
