Kev Hi Kev,I appreciate your kind comments, the good thing about All over Balsa infill, and the major benifit is that once done the Dry Dock Jig is no longer required to keep the ship straight and true, the Balsa does all that for you. I have had the cutty sark waiting for over 8 months with a complete Balsa infill,and she is still as straight as when I completed the infill. It is a time consuming project, but at the start of a build while you are collecting Issues, all you have is lots of time on your hands. STAGE 3 BALSA INFILL SANDING Hi Team this is it the next to last session. Photo 1 will show you the tools I use for this part of the build (no complecated equipment although your arm may ache. 1) 3m SANDING BLOCK (Homebase) 2) BnQ SANDING BLOCK (any type will do) 3) COARSE SAND PAPER (whatever you prefer) 4) LONG FILE (round on one side, flat on the other) 5) RONSEAL NATURAL FILLER (or the one you prefer) Please note sand against the grain or you will be at it for weeks. The Long File I used on the rear 2 ribs space only. STAGE 3 BALSA INFILL SANDING You may find (like I did) an area at the stern, where the balsa has gone thin through sanding and we have to do a repair job, no problem, cut out the thin pieces and replace with 1/2 inch thick Balsa, this will take care of what is left of the angle, when we continue sanding. PLEASE NOTE we will not finish sanding the stern untill we have fitted the last 2 Ribs. STAGE 3 BALSA INFILL SANDING Well team thats it for now, the ship is very strong now, she does not need to be in the dry dock but I am still putting her in there to protect the stern untill the 2 ribs are fitted. Questions and comments are most welcome, can not wait for the 2 ribs I will leave you with 2 more photos of the SOTS and a surprise photo of her with The Cutty Sark which I gave the Balsa treatment to over 8 months ago, and she is still straight and true and does not live in a Dry Dock. ISSUE 9 BUILD I trimmed the parts and removed all the loose ash, and then glued the side pieces to the ribs, using the plastic on my build board, I put the fixed ribs under my tiles to keep them straight. I will be adding another Balsa infill when I fit the last but one rib tomorrow. Hi Ger Thank you If I may enter the debate on the eyelet covering, it is not possible for me to use sulpher etc because my wife is ashmatic, but I use fish hooks, size 6 is good, and they come heavily forged to strengthen the product, and the colour is a great gun metal/ carbon. Thanks Alan, apart from the Balsa infill enhancement which has serious benifits to the build, I do like to keep things simple, hence I use lots of build techniques, which have been passed down from generations of modellers, so now you know I am not 21!!!!!!!!
