Continued with the balsa infills tonight and decided to put a second layer to the side sections. Have also started to fit in place the brace pieces ready for the top layer ensuring I left slots to enable the ship to go back onto the dry dock. Will continue tomorrow and see how we get on.... Have been doing 50 one arm press ups every hour getting the sanding arm ready..... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Started to fit the top sections of the balsa infills and found some minor problems that slowed down the progress a little... fitting the top pieces showed they were sitting too low and below the level of the ribs.. some building up to do... will continue tomorrow and hopefully have some photo's to show.... Have put her back into the dry dock and was delighted to see everything straight and true.... onwards we go....

she is looking great Thanks Ger C.. yes a lot of work so far but very enjoyable... I do think to myself however, we have come this far in just 8 weeks, can't help wondering what the next 127 weeks have to offer.... long way to go yet eh....

Went to the newagents this evening to pick up issue 9 and guess what, it wasn't there . So delivery problems not only hit the subscribers it hits the newsagents too. Perhaps it is now my turn to suffer the dreaded issue problem.. . Still, not too concerned as yet as I'm sure it will work out in the end. Right now I have plenty to do fitting the top sections of the balsa infills and of course the sanding and fairing... now getting on with it and will post photo's later....

Now almost finished the rough work on the balsa infills, have one section left to do at the stern and this should be completed tomorrow.... Looks a little rough and there is lots of sanding and no doubt filling to do but am confident the finished product will turn out realy well. I does feel truly solid and secure and would recommend builders follow MWG's process...... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Not a lot to report this evening, no issue 9 as yet but have been assured will have it tomorrow.. Finished fitting the balsa infill to final top section of the stern and have started with the rough shaping using just a sanding block and 360 grade sandpaper, now see the shape starting to appear... long way to go though... Happy to say that issue 9 finally arrived at the newagents today, first thing I did when I got my copy home was to check all the parts over for obvious damage or warpage... none evident. These are the parts received... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Carefully cut all the parts free from the frets and as before, carefully cleaned off all the loose ash from the edges. Using PVA, glued parts 26a and 26b to rib 26, made up rib 27 in the same way. Placed both ribs into my glass press under a heavy weight and left to dry... Now back to more sanding of the hull.... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Assembled the Gallery Support Pieces 28,29 and 30 onto rib 27 ensuring each was set square to the rib and flush both at the top and the bottom.... Now off to do some more sanding..... Gandale attached the following image(s):

Carried on and did some more rough sanding and shaping of the hull and I obviously have a couple of minor repair jobs to do where the balsa infills have ended up a little thin.. Still more rough work to do on the stern but all in all I am very happy with the way she is shaping.. Hopefully tomorrow I will end up in a position where I am left with fine sanding and minor filling left to do.... Hope you like the pics... Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

Continued today with the rough sanding and fairing of the hull, feel as if I am almost there. Also fitted rib 27 in place ensuring it was seated fully and set square and true to the jib and keel. When set, I then continued to box fill the final section and left to dry. Tomorrow I should be able to shape and sand the stern section..... Gandale attached the following image(s):
