BigGrin Hi All
Today i recieved the Fujimi Akagi kit fron Japan, this is my 1st time buying a Fujimi kit of any discription and i must thank Yaturo for his recomendation on the kit.So 1st impresions are a very finley detailed kit with over 23 spues of parts not including the stand sprue and the clear plastic aircraft sprue [9 aircraft boats and searchlights on this].
The only thing i have noticed detail wise so far is the lack of the armour belt detail on the lower hull moulding, i suspect that this kit was 1st produced as a 'waterline model' and the full hull edition was produced later but with out the adition of the armour belts they may be on one of the sprues but after looking at the plans i dont think there included we shall see.
Again i am waiting for some etch enhancments for the kit these hopefully will arive soon.
regards
Andy

Hi Andy!BigGrin
What a nice selection you have done!Laugh I shall also watch your building. By the way, do you know that enhancement parts are sold for your Akagi kit.

http://hlj.co.jp/product/fuj11273

I guess you can get it from Amazon.Cool

Any way, this Fujimi's kit will be helpful for your DeAGOSTINI Akagi.

Best Regards,
Yutaro

BigGrin Hi Yaturo
thanks for the comment and link to the wooden hull but im considering this one aswell as an upgrade i think its for the waterline kit but should still fit mine and yes the main reason for building her is to help with the DeAg build

BigGrin Thanks Saintsman
its a very comprehensive kit when you compare the parts to the Shinano there must be treble the amount of spues and parts and there all used, for a small scale kit im very impressed with the quality of the moulding and detail. If this is the standard in 1/700 just imagine the amount of parts included in a 1/350 scale by Fujimi something to explore as im after a good Mushasi kit

BigGrin Hi All
i have done some assembly on the Akagi like assembling the hull stands and painting them bronze. The lower hull has also been made up and painted with IJN hull red, previously i mentioned my suspision that the full hull kit is really the waterline kit with the addition of the lower hull parts, this was confirmed when i found the waterline base in the kit.
The lower hull provided is well moulded but lacks some essential detail that being the armour belt below the waterline,as i now have the option of either models i will have to see what the full hull looks like when dry assembled if it looks pants then its the waterline version

BigGrin Hi All
some progress on the hull,i do like this way of construction using rods and the rear boat deck as spacers along the hull as it helps keep everything straigt and pulls the hull into the correct alignment.
The forward hangar is only dry fitted at the moment to enable painting,so far im impressed with the detail and the majority of the fit of parts, a couple of them needed a small amount of fetling.

BigGrin Hi All
As mentioned in a previous post this kit is supposed to be the full hull version but the lower hull provided lacks the armour belt moulding which to me is a seriuos omition. The kit comes with both options waterline where the armour belt is moulded into this part or full hull but to me the full hull just dousnt look right.I have included some dry fit pics your thoughts would be apreciated here

Hi Andy!BigGrin
Your 1/700 Akagi seems to be sailing well. I hope you to notice the difference between this model and DeAGOSTINI's one. Fijimi's model is made based on the most up-to-date evidence.

I guess this model can be selected being a full hull type or water line type. You will anytime be able to select the type as you like, won't you?Laugh

I also made my water line 1/700 Yamato such model. The hull under the water line was made of clay.Cool

Best Regards,
Yutaro

BigGrin Hi Yaturo
Thanks for looking in,your modeling of the lower hull in clay is a great idea and i have already noticed some differences between the two models, like the open part at the rear boat deck and the model and plans should help me to recreate a good example.I am a little dissapointed on the lack of detail on the lower hull moulding but all in all i am very impressed with the detail on the mouldings everywhere else and the amount of parts included in the kit, they barely fit inside the box
