Glad to be of help Wilfy and yes those etch plates do look a bit thick as you say, so might be worth the effort even though very fiddly!!
I think the 'buffable' metal paints look brill when done properly? Even though I have started to use mostly acrylics on my models now, I still have most of the old Humbrol 'Rub'n'Buff' type enamel metallic paints, which I like to use for simulating metal work on small areas, the 'Polished Steel' one is excellent!! With the Red Oxide/Hull Red engine bay I reckon if you add a few simulated oil stains and general dust and grubbiness to the area, it will look about right mate?
I'll look forward to seeing how you get on Wilfy?

Hi, Thanks for your comments Andy & Kev. It's great to have some encouragement. Have given the engine a coat of Mr Metal Colour Dark Iron. Will put pics up when dried off fully. The only trouble with this paint is that it seems to remain buffable forever. Needs a good coat or two of varnish to seal it in, else you transfer it everywhere! I've got a couple of thing to do to the chassis before I fit the engine. The first being removing the tow bracket (?) at the front & replacing it with etch. Marked by the red arrow in pic. Nice job Wilfy, it doesn't look like the bracket was ever there in the first place!!
Always happy to encourage the military/aviation builds on MS as I think we need a bit more of it on here and if it helps to bring more in, then I'm happy to praise those that already build stuff like this. Well done mate and keep up the good work!!
Looking forward to seeing the etch bracket replacement.

Thanks again for all your comments, interest & encouragement. Have buffed up the engine now, using a combination of cotton buds, a spectacle cleaning cloth & a medium stiff paint brush. The engine itself was a bit fiddly & by some miracle I only knocked two parts off! Do have to be a bit careful with the buffing as you can buff all the way through. Ready now for sealing off & picking out some detail parts. Thanks again. Wilfy Wilfy the Sea Dog attached the following image(s):

Very nice work Wilfy and the etch certainly does add an extra sharpness to the engine now that it is painted, should look even better with a nice oil wash to pick out the detail.
Well done and keep up the good work.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Haven't made much progress over the last month.
Have done a few bits on the chasis, some pics to follow.

Have started to fit the internal components on the chasis. Some great detail here, sadly it will all be hidden once complete. I know it's there though. wilfy Wilfy the Sea Dog attached the following image(s):

Wilfy This is looking like a great build. I'm thinking about trying a half track next so I'm interested to see your progress and to see a different manufacturer from the regular bunch.
