Hi All, Just looking for opinions on the instructions in issues 5 and 6 about creating your own display stand for the SOS.

Anyone doing this or are you waiting for an offer like the Victory at the end of the build to purchase a stand?

Being a newbie to these builds, I was wondering what more experienced builders were planning. Any gotchas with creating the stand... Thanks

Hi,
The instructions are for a pedestal stand and if that is what you want then you need to make the fittings to the Keel now!
Personally I don't like pedestal stands I think they look odd particularly on a big model. Maybe if you were building a yacht will a very elegant keel which you didn't want to obscure. Other people prefer them. I much prefer the cradle type which is not fixed to the ship. I am informed we will be offered a stand like the Victory one, which I think looks quite good. I am also expecting to get a build cradle with the magazines, this could be converted to a display stand by staining, veneering etc. That's what I did with my last build and I got a Brass plaque with the date of finishing, my name and the ships name engraved online for just a few pounds. I have also made my own cradle stand for a previous build too.

A display stand similar to that having just gone on sale for the Victory will more than likely be made available to purchase towards the end of the series.

thanks for the info court orchard and MrT. BigGrin
I thought a big warship might look odd up on stilts, the cradle type stand sounds worth waiting for.

I, on the other hand, am opting for the pedestal variety as I am planning on building my own display case and have no wish to open it up just to reposition the model just because we decided to display it on a different cabinet and it happened to shift while moving it around.

I understand the argument about it looking odd on pedestals which is why I have a variety on order so I can see what looks best before I make the final mounts...
