Since my stroke, I am struggling slightly with the cannon blocks, to the point where I have lost a few. I am managing far better than I thought I would though.
Do I have to buy a whole back issue for just a few blocks or is there anywhere online I can buy some? Also, some more wire would be handy.
Thanks.

Hi Rob try 'cornwall model boats' for your blocks and wire, also i think somebody mentioned in there SoS diary getting smaller blocks than supplied as they look more to scale hope this helps Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Rob Do you have a local model shop close to you? If you have and it does a bit of everything like ours down in Plymouth you may well be able to get small packets of wooden blocks, I've bought various sized ones and also deadeyes etc made by Constructo (one of the ship kit maufacturers). The blocks seem to come in packets of 20 judging from my stock hanging off my workroom ceiling. Hope this is helpful PS they do brass eyelets too! No model shop near me, using Cornwall model boats. They have what I want, but am unsure of sizes of blocks and eyelets. They are too small to measure accurately. Was hoping someone would have the sizes.

Hi, The blocks supplied with the SOTS are roughly equivalent to the 3/3.5mm blocks available from Cornwall Model Boats or direct from Jotika/Caldercraft. They are available in Walnut (dark) or Boxwood (light) and from memory are about 8p each. For me they are too big, but the smaller ones become proportionally more difficult to handle.

The Caldercraft copper eyelets are about 50% smaller than the Brass ones supplied with the SOTS, are of a neater construction and are more to scale. They also have a longer shaft which can help in handling.

You can also find a lot of these things on ebay,ok you may have to try 2 or 3 search variants but they are there & most of them are free p&p..unlike cmb who demand a minimum order & then charge p&p.Not that cmb aren't a good source,I have used them for quite a few things. If you order direct from Jotika/caldercraft http://www.shipwrightshop.com/s...Rigging-Fittings_01.html I don't think they have a minimum order and postage is £1.85. The Copper eyelets are £1.99 for 100. They also do even smaller photo etched brass ones. The wooden blocks are available from them in packs of 10 for about 80p.

Hi Rob T That 10 for 80p isn't bad at all, my Constructo ones were £1.75 per 20 (looks about 3-5mm) and I have no idea how many years ago I bought them! One handy tip I can pass on regarding drilling the holes clean for the thread is to apply a drop of the watery superglue to each block right over the holes and then let them dry overnight. The next day you can drill out the holes with little or no splitting of the wood ruining the blocks. This applies to the Constructo ones as they are the only type I've had experience with, by the sound of it the better quality/finish Jotika ones might not require drilling out at all. Best of luck with them anyway!
