Thanks for the nice comments Ger C and Mark... I am happy with the progress so far even though I'm having some problems with the bow spirit but am I'm sure I'll be able to get that sorted in time, just have to have patience...  Alan

Bow spirit is starting to get to me now.... whatever I do it still wants to go back to it's warped condition after a few hours of treatment.... now thinking the only way round this is to order a back issue and wait 28 days for the thing to turn up..... not happy.....  Alan

Is it possible to fill the structure with balsa?
I'm sure it would cure the bends!

Hi Alan.
Would it be possible for you to get a piece of 1/8th ply and make a replacement piece.
It would be quicker than ordering a new partwork.

Bob Hi Bob, thanks for looking in. Have thought about balsa infilling and will keep that option open for now.... Am going to persevere as it has improved but just not enough..... Alan

At long last I think I am winning the battle with the warped bow spirit, good few passes with the hot steam iron and placed back under heavy weight... This being done on a nightly basis. It is a lot better than it was but not yet perfect..... Will get there in the end....  Gandale attached the following image(s):

Tonight I removed the decks from their frets and cleaned all the black ash from the edges.... Following the instructions on Mr T's official build diary I marked out the rib lines to use as guides for the pins.... A little filing required on a couple of the slots but nothing significant, more to do with tight fitting rather than any alterations.... Gandale attached the following image(s):

The warped bow stem saga continues but have decided not to lose any sleep over it. Have once again given it a good soak, for well over an hour and it sits back in my glass press heavily weighted down. There it will stay, without even checking it, for at least a couple of weeks... If that fails then I can always order it again as a back issue, time is of no importance as after all it is not a race.....

Hello Alan, had some problems with warped parts myself on my Victory build the front keel section especially was very warped. The soaking and pressing method worked ok on the smaller parts but not on the larger keel section. As this part was crucial to a straight hull I phoned customer services explained my dilemma and they sent me a replacement free of charge. It took a long time to arrive but I now have a straight front keel section to work with. Am kind of reserved to the fact I may have to order a back issue but at the same time I cannot see us fitting this part until well into the build, probably after the hull has been planked going by the Victory build.. This gives me time to play with and of course learn from the experience of dealing with problems.... Thanks again and I think your builds are excellent...

Looking good Alan  . It sounds to me as though your warped Bowsprit is a manufacturing problem rather than warp that happened post-manufacture. If the problem was introduced when the ply layers were originally laid down then its going to always reassert itself no matter what you do. I'd get a replacement sent out, as we know how long they can take to arrive.

Alan, your work seems fine to me Your decking went down like mine because your measurements when fitting the Balsa fillets were spot on!!! This evening I set about working on the launch, first true attempt at planking. Found the start of the task rather fiddly but have to admit was finding it easier the more I did... One side of the launch has now been planked and I was left with a small gap, too small for another plank to be shaped and fitted. Mixed some balsa sanding dust with PVA and used that to fill the gap, think it worked out quite well... Will hopefully finish planking the launch tomorrow evening....
