I am interested in infilling the hull to make planking easier. However, I am unsure of the amount and size of balsa I need, the approx cost and the best place to buy from.

I know it's a big question, but can anyone help me out please? Also, are there any tools needed other than general modelling tools?

Hi RobT.
On my sos i used 2 off 1/2 inch by 36inch by 4inch wide lengths of balsa and i got them from http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/
But there is also http://balsacabin.webs.com/index.html

Toolwise knife, plane and sandpaper.
A plane is not essentual but does help.
Best regards.

if you can find a local model plane shop they will stock different thickness balsa planks, may even off cuts you can buy.

Hi Rob...In my local modelling shop. they sell balsa wood in bundles of varying thicknesses which they order in from elsewhere? The bundles are only around two quid. I am sure that you would be able to pick something similar from a modelling or craft shop in your area?
