I have been looking at Some small lathes, for turning the masts, Karl has suggested 2 lathes, The Proxxon lathe, Karl was it the D B 250 model. Would it be suitable to take the mast lengths , And the one I thought would be a good buy would be the Unimat 1 lathe, 6 in 1 tool for £277. Please can anyone help that has either of these machines.

A now skint Mo

Hi Mo,

My advice would be look for second hand on e-bay or some other site if possible. Also don't pay £277 for a Unimat because you can get them much cheaper than that.

The DB250 is a high quality wood turning lathe

Where as the Unimat 6 in 1 is just that and is much more than just a wood turning lathe, and can be expanded to do other things.

As with most things, shop around..

Thanks for all the help, I thought the Proxxen looked the business, but the umimat is a more versatile tool, I may opt for the unimat..

Thanks again,
