Well as most of us are now finished, or nearing the end of our build and with the thought of potentially waiting until March/April for the Senna release (if at all)I have decided to take a leaf out of warthogs book with a 2nd Mclaren build!

Like warty, I too will be "amending" the MP4-23 to replicate another drivers car BigGrin

Below is an image of my completed model with the unfinished kit I recently bought off ebay sitting on top of the blue print for the next build, have you guessed what it is yet?

There will be alot of changes being made and I have taken on quite a task, but I'm pretty sure with time and patience it will turn out ok in the end!

Nice work, but I wouldn't hold your breath for a March/April Senna release, when the majority of partwork national releases are in Dec/Jan or Aug/Sept..

Sounds like Tommick knows it is not coming early next year Crying although the MP4/23 was released in March.

I like the idea of a post 2009 car, a lot of modification though, I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on. Looking at the shape and markings on the nose I think you are doing Button's championship winning Brawn, at least the engine will be the same.

Somebody get that man a cookie!!

Yeah I did mention in a post ages ago that I would love to have that carCool

So now I'm going to make it!

I've whittled the main differences down as image below

I've sourced the sponsor logo's too to make my own decals, the only real major issue I can see me having is re-producing the black and luminous grapics

Should all be good fun though, and ifwe are getting sennas car and Mr.T's prediction of when to expect it is right, looks like Ive got plenty of time on it!

I personally would prefer Button's Brawn, Mansell's FW14B or Hill's FW18 over the McLaren MP4/4 - only because they were the cars British drivers won the WDC in.

Which sponsor version are you doing? Australia, as your pic or Brazil, where he won the WC?

Either one, good luck with it :-)

This is going to be interesting, best of luck to you regarding the build and modifications. I shall be watching with interest. Incidentally how do you intend to mould the body work?

Regards

I do realise I have bitten off quite a bit, but I will be doing a build diary to keep you guys updated

I have actually made a start so when I get a chance I'll start the thread and upload some pics

To answer your questions:

Sponsor version - I am going for the one in the pics, It's the Monaco version, I've downloaded the hi-res images from amalgams website for references

Body work - I consulted with Yoda (a.k.a Worthog!) and he recommended a modeling material called evergreen, now I've checked this stuff out and it is available at my local hobbycraft and seem to be spot on

Comes in different thickness's and sizes so I'll be cutting, sandings, shaping and molding this stuff to fill in blanks

Tyres - Yes I did think about this and still unsure of my approach, I did think at one point of just sanding the Mclaren ones down to remove the grooves, but I dont think this is the best option

So I am open to any suggestions!!

I have the Amalgam Brazil version and it looks amazing, the extra decals and yellow on the front wing really sets it apart from the other versions.

You legend!!!!BigGrin

I may ask you to send me some pics if its not too much trouble, I have a limited number of angles and you could be helping me out alot

I know there's a few differences between Monaco and Brazil cars, but the basic shape would still be there

Here's the official build thread for anyone interested

Right favour time, if you would be so kind

Im after some detailed photos of how the rear wing fits to the main body, I can make out there's like a lower flap that spans the width of the wing that looks like its placed just above the diffuser and brake light housing, but just not 100% from what I've got

Any zoomed in, well lit photos from the front would be hugely appreciated

Circled in red, from behind
