Hi Glen Was it one Colonel Paul-Frederick Rollet who re-organised the Legion and saved it from the French Government's post WW1 defence cuts? (Could have done with someone like him in this country today!) Thanks Glen, I have to admit that I had to trawl through my ref library to find that answer! Here's a Naval one! In the 1960's a tourist attraction was opened by one Ellis B Daw at Sparkwell near Plymouth. (This has nothing to do with the question obviously but read on! ) Ellis' father was one William Ellis Archibald Daw and joined the Royal Navy on his 18th birthday becoming an Assistant Paymaster (Active Service). He served on two ships during WW1, the second I'll keep in case I get a second question in the future but the first is the subject of the photo below. The picture was taken by W.E.A.Daw RN in 1916-17 and shows his Captain relaxing on the bridge of his ship. This vessel was launched six years earlier as the "Intaba" and was renamed by the Navy for her war service. The question is in two parts but I'll accept either part as the answer. Firstly, what was the Intaba renamed to (there are two possibilities here) and secondly, what sort of warship was she? (There is a clue in the background!) She was requisitioned as a Transport Ship. Renamed WAITOMO in 1916 then ENGLESTAN IN 1927.  Roger the Cabin Boy

Brilliant! Well done Glen. She was designed as a passenger liner for the African station, one of a fleet, all named after African tribes and consequently had no form of cabin heating at all, so the Admiralty sent her on convoy escorts to Murmansk in Russia!! "Archie" Daw as he was always known as nearly died in a naval hospital from pneumonia as a result. She was also officially called the Q4 and was one of the famous Q-Ship submarine decoys, the cabin behind the Captain holds one of the quick fire guns, brought into action as the cabin walls were dropped down! Just to clear up any confusion can we take it that Bernd is correct here since he answered the question correctly based on the information in your question? As in you didn't mention you were looking for a Royal Navy Carrier in particular, which is how Bernd took it and answered accordingly?? If so then well done Bernd and over to you my friend for the next question!!

She was originally called the "East Indiaman" and was a fourth-rate ship. She was burnt out after been purposely run aground in Rosas Bay after catching fire. Model boats built so far:-
