Well tonight I managed to finally complete the planking on the ships launch and for a first attempt I am quietly pleased with the outcome.... Tomorrow will give the hull a fine sanding to complete the job unless of course the launch is also double planked....Blink Blink

Completed the fine sanding of the ships launch. Now ready for it's first coat of primer.... Now thinking whether to paint or stain, airing on the side of painting. Will see what the official build diary and mag shows before deciding....BigGrin

Started work on glueing and pinning the lower deck.... Partially set the pins in place along the rib lines on all sections. Then applied PVA to all the lower deck supports and pinned the decks in place. Having the pins partially set meant the task could be quickly completed before the glue started to set... Everything slotted together very nicely I am happy to say.....

Started fitting the dummy gun support beams. First beam to be fitted was between ribs 13 and 21, ensuring it was cut to size and only covering half the rib on both 13 and 21. Also shaped the lower edge of the beam to sit flush on the deck. Once happy with the dry fit then glued and clamped in place.. Would have liked to pin the beams to the ribs but sadly, used all the pins on pinning the deck down and being a first build I still have to build up supplies and spares....CoolCool

Finally finished fitting the dummy gun support beams. At one stage I thought I had cut the slits too far but thankfully not. Now making a start on the deck supports, have them all cut to size and just about to glue in place..... More tomorrow.....BigGrin BigGrin

That's one nice looking ship coming on there Alan, I think with the amount of detail in this ship you can't beat the painted finish. Best of luck and keep the pics coming!Cool

Thanks Robin, have to agree with you regarding the amount of detail this ship will have.... as there is very little historical information on her decor it does give us a certain amount of freedom as to the finish... The only thing I know for certain is I am not painting the hull white, will either stain or apply walnut veneer... the veneer option is looking favourite..... Thanks for taking the time to look in and comment...Cool Cool

Alan

Have now completed fitting the deck support spars across the ribs and glued in place. Feels very flimsey so as an extra precaution am now using 6mm beech dowel to add additional supports.....Mellow Mellow
