Hi All,
Now I know this may seem a stupid question but can someone please tell me HOW to use a Plank Bender? Having got one in my freebie tool kit it just seems a complete and utter mystery to me Confused

Any help would be really appreciated.

From my (limited) experience the blade should be used to cut into the inside of the curve, the greater the curve required then the closer these cuts should be,

I am sure that others may be able to provide more detail!

But be careful not ti cut through the plank,

Hope this helps

Hi Borg,

Plank bending pliers or plank nippers as they are also known, put notches into the plank surface which allows the plank to bend, (the notched side is the inside surface of the plank).

The closer you place the notches to each other, then the tighter the curve the plank will bend around, and if you place the benders at an angle to the wood (not 90 degrees which is used normally), you can also introduce a twist in the plank. Use a plank offcut to practice on or check which way you need to angle pliers to get the bend/twist you want.

If recall rightly, the blade of your tool kit bender is reversible, in that one side of the blade has a blunt edge used for bending, and opposite side has a sharp plank cutting edge.

Dont over squeeze the handles of the tool, which may cause the plank to snap breal the tool handles. For hardwoos planks, soaking, steaming or an electric bender is better suited.
