Hi CMB!  You asked, "Anybody know what size cord should I use?", I use 1mm thread but you can also use 0.8mm thread. Stiffened the thread with glue after it is fitted to the yards and pull the loop down until the glue sets. Darron

Hi Shipmates, Well here we are in July2012 and I am about halfway through the build. Spent the last few weeks tidying up the paintwork and fitting the first of the deck fittings All three masts completed and rigging fitted together with the yards which are safely stored away until required. I have decided to fit the sails as “she who must be obeyed” has decided that is the way to go, but may have a go at furling some as a full set may be a little cluttered, only time will tell. Pictures of my progress to-date are below, feel free to comment good or bad as your input and feedback is very useful. Happy building to you all CMB attached the following image(s):

Hi CMB That build is looking beautiful and if the masts etc are to the same standard you'll have a first class model at the end of it! I'm building the smaller scale DelPrado version (actually re-building would be a better description!) so I have no idea of the build schedule that you all are following on the DeAgostini. Because of that this comment is probably completely pointless as nobody else has mentioned it, if so please forgive my non-DeAg 'impudence'! I did notice from your photos that there are no rectangular holes through the quarter deck (either side of the main mast) where the bitts come up through the deck, is that added later? As I said I've no idea how your builds go along or 'whats done when' but I thought I'd better ask just in case. As I said, she's looking great and I love that clean deck look before all the fiddly bits mess it all up! As for building the paddle steamer - very nice, but where's all the guns!! Hi Plymouth57, Sorry that I have not replied sooner but been a little busy of late. Not sure re your question as this is my first ever boat build and I am working as per the magazine regarding the main build but looking at the later issues the bits appear to be glued to the decks, only time will tell. Hi there CMB I've added some quickie graphics to one of my pics from my build below. the white shapes show the main fore brace bitts where they come up through the quarter deck. My own DelPrado kit does include these holes but still only supplies a basic metal moulding for the bitts themselves to be glued to the deck (I won't be having any of THAT milarky!!) On the actual ship the vertical 'pillars' go down through the holes and through the upper and middle gun decks as well with the upper gun deck having a second horizontal 'shelf' support like the one above, (going to be fun trying to get THAT in!) I've noticed since that many other build diaries haven't got this feature in the quarter deck either, it may be that at some stage this area was decked over? Mine is open as per my two reference books on the Victory but I've also seen other models with the holes either grated over or covered in netting so there might be several variations, all correct at some time.
