Hi all i have been toying with the thought of furled sails and i am looking for experienced advice/ideas as how to do this as it would be a shame to waste the sails as no sails= plain, full sail=a lot of hidden detail, furled sails= best of both worlds so i am looking for ideas/images or experience of this Allan

Hi Allan,
More often than not for supplied sails, they need to be reduced in size to present a scale look because the thickness of the material.
A couple of very links..http://www.modelshipwrig...Articles/ScaleSails.pdf

Must admit, I prefer the furled look for the reasons Allan has stated, and no reason why you could not do a mix of both if you wanted, as often not all sails would be open at the same time.

Hi guys thanks for your thoughts on this its just a matter of getting the right shape and size of sail so as its not too bulky when furled ideally we need an adjusted sail plan for cutting the right size and shape hmmm will start searching the net for info thanks again Allan

That was my thought full sails on the mast tops but the lower sail on each mast furled to see the model “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

I am now looking for suggestions for a thin material that could replace the sailcloth ie silk, nylon that when furled it would not look out of place or be too thick and bulky Allan

Amati sell a period ship sail cloth pack, though CMB are currently O/S, but it might be worth asking if it has a suitable thickness for furled sailshttp://www.cornwallmodel...catalog/amati_sails.html
