Actualy i replied with that as i knew id heard somthing about Ron Dennis as a mechanic and 'running out of fuel'

But i cant find any reference to this in relation to Bruce McLaren....

So, its probably wrong, but i did find this titbit....

"At the British Grand Prix in Brands Hatch Jack Brabham once again lost a secure win that was earned also by Rindt. Brabham had been 2nd on the grid and after the start he was between Ickx and Rindt. After the retirement of Ickx Brabham overtook Rindt but in the last lap Brabham`s engine stopped. He had run out of fuel! Rindt overtook him shortly before the finish and there were rumours that mechanic Ron Dennis had filled in only 7 cans of fuel instead of 8....."

Bruce Mclaren ran out of fuel in about 63 in Belgium, I think! But Ron Dennis wasn't about in Bruce's reign.

I couldn't find any mention of a mechanic.

Good luck everyone!!Confused

correct.it was ron dennis who took the blame,he confessed that he took the blame years later whilst talking to a colleague at a dinner, what had happened was, there was a switch on the car that gave a rich mixture,or a lean mixture, the rich was for practise, and lean for the race,as the rich would use more fuel and therefore although the car was brimming at the top,it would not last the race, and ron took the blame for another machanic.who was not revealed.hope that's clear.
I have been asked to put another question so here goes.
which f1 ex driver part owns a hotel in monaco? easy but I can't think of anything else.

Another slant on the 'running out of fuel' story. Its defo Jack Brabham rather than Bruce McLaren.

Ron Dennis and the out of fuel mystery

Post nine on that page :-) the actual mechanic responsible is also revealed Laugh
