Hi,

With everything going together much better, I proceeded onwards and fitted the beams to the inside edges of the ribs on the bottom deck. they fitted into place and were held with clamps until the glue set.

I also added the deck supports for the next deck, but decided to use dowelling to support the beams, slightly over kill, but adds more strengthen.

Regards
Claret

Hi,

Also managed to finish planking the launch, not bad for a first attempt and I hope that painting it will hide some of the imperfections.

Thats it for now.

Hi mike,

Thanks for the kind words.

I will start balsa infilling now everything is in the correct positions, but will do it slowly over the next few weeks.

Hi Dominic,

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Yes, surprising how sturdy the model is. cutting the balsa out was messy but straight forward. the wood being softer than the ribs helped.

Hi,

Had a play with the ship's launch last night, removing it from the jig. Again, surprising how sturdy the boat is when assembled.

I used a razor saw, and cut well away from the launch planking.

I then snipped of the excess jibs above the top plank line, but not to close to the planking.

One or two did break at the planking, but nothing serious.

The ribs were then sanded sown as explained in the assembly guide.

To finish, I stuck the last part on after a little sanding to get it into shape. a little filler used to fill in a couple of gaps that I will file down tonight.

Overall, i am pleased with the result.

Regards
Claret

Hi,

i have also started to balsa infill again, but decided not to box each section in, but rather put balsa on each side of the rib formers and bottom deck. Only the bottom deck progress showing in the picture.

This should give me more surface area to glue the planking to and also help in fairing the hull into shape.

Regards
Claret

Hi Alan,

Thanks. I am much happier now with the build.

I know where I went wrong and only have myself to blame. Steep learning curve!

Claret.

Hi,

Added balsa infills to the rib formers and sanded down to the contours of the rib formers.

Also primed and painted the dummy cannon recesses.

Hi,

I have glued the launch's anchor together, primed and painted black and brown. Not very clear from the picture.
