Okay, here goes, but no doubt I will have got something wrong
When she was first built, she was called Helga 11.
Around 1915, the 11 was dropped, and she was just known as the Helga (His Majesty's Yacht Helga)
After being handed over to the Irish free state in 1923 and was renamed Muirchú.
The other reason she is well known, is because of the submarine she sank off the Isle Of Man in 1918

Not quite what I was looking for but I will accept it as the correct answer because the site you have quoted was one which I found in order to ensure that the information was available before posing the question,

she was also part of the first Irish Naval Service which was disbanded after the Civil war and was handed over to the Dept of Agriculture and Fisheries and was disarmed (stove pipe in place of a barrel) in 1930 the Irish Govt had to apply to the British for permission to have her rearmed as trawlers were refusing to comply with her orders and one even attacked her!

Between 1923 and 1937 she was the only Irish vessel permitted to fly the tricolor, all other vessels had to fly the red duster, she was the only armed vessel available to the Irish Govt at the start of the Emergency.

Direct translation yes, but as Éire is the official name of the state the more correct translation is ship of Ireland or Irish state ship, can you answer the question on the naming convention?
