Just started fitting the middle deck

It seems a strange construction to glue the deck to those very thin cross supports? What do these flimsy bits of wood do?
They seem completely unnecessary to me?

The middle deck seems a tight fit at the moment?

Just making sure

Bob,

They give support across the deck, but as you say they are very weak.

Many others have used dowelling to add extra support to them. I will also be doing this and using 6mm beech dowel for the job.

Thank you, Rob

I noticed those dowel supports a while back and thought they were part of the kit

I think they will improve the deck support enormously.......But why should there be a need to improve the model design?

It already costs an arm and a leg!

Because in essence they are not needed. It's just peace of mind. The dowels are very cheap though. About 30p a metre from CMB.

There isn't, other than for some builders its peace of mind. You'll find that once the glue has set, the middle deck assembly firms up nicely, but it won't harm for additional support in fear of accidentally putting pressure on the deck and possibly breaking the beam spans.
