ISSUE 12 BUILD

The object this week is to fit the Dummy cannon beams, and deck supports between the ribs, to support the next deck, wether it be another ply deck or deck planks, as yet we do not know.

I followed the instructions, no problems there, but I did add the two enhancements ---- the first was to also pin the beams to the inside of the rib with a pin punch, this gave a much better fix.

The second enhancement was the inclusion of a piece of 1/4inch dowel underneath the deck supports (Placed in the middle) the reason for this? well what ever deck we put on next we are going to apply pressure to the beams, this could result in breakages in the centre of the deck supports, its just an extra precaution:-

Hi Mike
Not up to this point yet but I can see the wisdom in the dowel supports. I would not deem to teach an expert how to suck eggs, but my thought is that if we are fitting the same sort of deck as last time, then may be 3 dowel supports across each cross beam (evenly spaced) may give more pinning points ,or would that be classed as overkill.

Regards

(Derek)

Hi Derek, thank you, you can put as many supports as you wish, but in my opinion one in the middle is enough, till we see the nature of the deck pieceBigGrin Kind regards Mike

Hi Mike, watching your build with great interest, learning so much.
Could you tell me what size dowel you used for the mast when you were fitting the deck sections.

Thanks
Paul

ISSUE 14 BUILD

I chose to paint all the dummy gun batterns black as my first task, taking care not to get paint all over the place, I used the Dull black that comes in the De Ag paint set:-

Last but by no means least I fitted the deck pieces, starting at the Bow (front)I used water jugs filled with water to give weight to help press the decks to the beams (that is why I fitted supports to the beams in build 13)
The decks slotted in to place with no adjustments, by just following the instructions:-

Hi mike,I was browsing your build log and am afraid to say that i dont think you should have fitted the balsa infills in the stem.I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I am almost certain the lower framework is exposed when the model is complete,if you go on deagostini passion, the italian site.Their build log is at week 40ish and shows the stem fitted and painted.

Hi Nigel as I have said to other members making the same observation, you are correct in what you sayBigGrin However the balsa infills have kept my stem straight and true.
I will need to cut out some balsa from the stem but I do feel this is a small price to pay for the benefits of keeping the stem straightLove Thank you for your commentsCool Kind regards MikeWink
